NOTE

The Blurred Line Between Fiction and Reality

The portrayal of Charles Foster Kane in Citizen Kane and William Randolph Hearst in real life has become heavily intertwined over the years. Orson Welles ensured that Kane was depicted in a way that avoided legal action, as he did not want to be sued for libel. While both Kane and Hearst were powerful and wealthy, the film character was portrayed as a hollow, defeated man lacking loyalty and love from those around him, in contrast to Hearst who maintained optimism and love for his wife. Hearst did not see himself as a failure and eventually regained control of his company, passing it down to his heirs.
