NOTE

Impact of Diet on Gut Microbiota in Mice

A study on mice showed that switching from a diet rich in nutrients and fiber to a low fiber, high fat diet resulted in a decrease in gut microbiota diversity, similar to differences between industrialized and traditional populations. When the mice were switched back to a healthy diet, the microbiota returned to its original state, indicating a potential memory effect. However, multiple generations on a low fiber, high fat diet led to a progressive deterioration of the microbiota, with only 30% of the original species remaining by the fourth generation.
