The Benefits of Whole Food Supplements and Vitamin C
There are benefits to taking whole food supplements, as they provide good doses. However, there is no scientific basis for taking gram amounts when sick. Slow release vitamin C may have benefits, but it is not common in whole food form. Taking 200 milligrams of vitamin C twice a day is optimal for utilization. Higher doses can lead to spillover effects and diminishing returns. It would be interesting to compare urinary oxalate and lymphocyte vitamin C concentrations between slow release and powder forms. Other good options include whey protein, raw milk, collagen gelatin, bone broth, and Gaia throat shield for sore throats.
