We are stuck in the last stages of the industrial revolution
The people who are powerful politically, either directly or by indirection, through ways of spending money are concerned about capital and the accumulation of capital. And when they see what computers can do, what dicial technology can do, they're not saying, oh, it's our job to invent the knowledge age or the next the post industrial age. They're like, hay, how can we have more capital? So it's like, it's all as mark twain says, history doesn't repeat, but it rhymes. It's not exactly the same thing, but there's a pretty strong analogy.
