In 1950 there was a first experiment where they were able to actually measure how particles, photons were produced in pairs. There was this correlation that they had and this was done by Chen Cheng Wu who was one of the very few women in physics at the time. They could show that we did the exact same experiment with gloves or socks, you would get a different outcome. So that was really exciting and clear that there is something strange going on.
