Reassuring the Crew and Bouncing Back
As the aircraft commander, I had a candid conversation with the crew to gauge their trust in me. Despite the bumpy ride, I was reassured that they believed in me. Having their confidence helped me quickly bounce back. When a close call occurs, those not responsible may not fully grasp the potential danger. But as the decision-maker, I knew what could have happened, which was terrifying. Replaying the worst-case scenario in my mind for years was not helpful.
