Awareness of Racial and Ethnic Bias in Healthcare Algorithms

Healthcare algorithms, which are essential in clinical decision making, have the potential to both improve outcomes and introduce harm. Similar to other industries, evidence of racial and ethnic bias has been found in algorithms, including healthcare algorithms. AI models learn from biased data, making it likely for the algorithms to also perpetuate bias. The focus has now shifted towards addressing racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare algorithms with the aim of establishing guiding principles to mitigate bias.
