Navigating Solitude in a Hyper-Distracted World
Solitude, as a spiritual practice, involves being still and quiet in the presence of God. However, in today's hyper-distracted world, Western culture resists solitude, stillness, and quiet. Research shows that individuals are habitually distracted, switching tasks frequently and focusing for short periods. The primary culprit is the overwhelming amount of information humans consume daily, hindering depth and reflection. The frenzied culture we live in trains our inner lives to be noisy, making it challenging to embrace solitude. Slowing down is not easy due to the active development of habits that prevent stillness and quiet.
