Ethiopia's Quest for Access to the Sea

Ethiopia lost access to the sea and its ports when Eritrea succeeded in 1993. Since then, the country has been trying to regain direct access to the sea, but agreements with neighboring countries, including Somalia, have failed. Currently, Ethiopia heavily relies on the port of Djibouti for its external trade but is seeking to change this reliance.
