Individuals are willing to accept less money to deactivate their social media accounts if a significant number of their network friends are also deactivating. Moreover, individuals are willing to pay to deactivate not only their account but everyone else's as well. The study found that participants were willing to pay $30 to deactivate everybody's TikTok accounts, including their own, for four weeks, which is similar to the amount they would accept to deactivate if some of their friends were also deactivating.
