NOTE

The Importance of Magnesium Measurement in Blood

Magnesium plays a critical role in bodily functions, yet its measurement in blood is notoriously challenging. Standard blood panels often include magnesium levels; however, these readings do not accurately reflect an individual's magnesium status. To truly assess magnesium levels, a magnesium retention test is necessary since only a small fraction of magnesium is present in the bloodstream. Serum magnesium levels are typically only indicative of severe deficiency, which can lead to serious health issues. The variability of magnesium in the body makes serum tests unreliable for determining overall magnesium status, rendering standard blood measurements virtually useless in this context.
