In the 1930s, Jewish individuals faced challenges of immigration due to anti-Semitic laws issued in Germany, Poland, and Hungary, leading to a desire to leave but few countries willing to accept them. The United States closed its immigration system to Eastern and Southern Europeans after 1924 due to isolationism and anti-communist sentiments, making it difficult for Jews to enter. Consequently, many Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution sought refuge in Palestine under British rule.
