Understanding the Neurochemistry of Attraction
Attraction is an initial unconscious process where the brain assesses a potential mate's value based on sensory information. This assessment involves factors like body shape, facial symmetry, tone of voice, and genetic compatibility. The brain calculates the mate value of the individual unconsciously, like evaluating a stock market value. If the person is deemed reproductively successful, oxytocin and dopamine flood the brain, initiating the attraction process. This flood is quick and unconscious, leading to conscious contemplation about the person's traits like physical appearance, voice, and compatibility. The attraction process then shifts from being entirely unconscious to a mix of conscious and unconscious evaluation.
