The Impact of One Person's Creation on the Industry
As a writer, I encourage students to think of themselves as chefs rather than cooks. This means breaking down what they love about a story and rebuilding it into something new. By making connections between different genres and understanding the elements that make them successful, creators can develop their own unique stories. Christopher Nolan's film Inception is a great example of this approach. By analyzing what makes a heist story work and adding their own original twist, the Nolans created a highly successful and original film. If aspiring storytellers can boil down what they love about a story and build something new around it, they can become successful storytellers themselves.
