Pathologization and Paradox

Altered consciousness and intuition have been historically pathologized, along with the urge towards spirituality and religious inclination. Perceived pathologies are celebrated, used as currency, and then vilified. Trauma discourse can become a way of absolving oneself and labeling others as sinners, resembling hierarchical puritanism. Pathologization occurs when different socio-political views are diagnosed as dangerous or pathological. Instead of accepting paradox, people tend to pathologize it. Life is filled with paradoxes which often fill us with dread. For instance, cultural appropriation might have led to beautiful music, and a Hindu woman in an arranged marriage might genuinely believe it's the only way to find love. The alternative to pathologizing paradoxes is acknowledging the infinite variety of life and accepting that no viewpoint is superior to others.
