Shift from Directing to Collaborating for Growth
When overwhelmed, parents often resort to control and urgency in addressing issues, focusing primarily on immediate problem-solving. Acknowledging this tendency is essential; parents play multiple roles, including that of director, supporter, collaborator, and champion. Initially, parents lead and dictate the pace, especially when children are young, but staying in a directing role for too long can hinder the child's development. This leads to dependency rather than fostering autonomy. Transitioning to a collaborative approach allows for shared responsibility, encouraging children to take ownership and develop their executive functions. Successful parenting requires awareness and adjustment of roles to promote healthy growth and independence in children.
