NOTE

Expulsion orders and the fight for home

Between the 70s and 2009, there were multiple expulsion orders against the speaker's family and 28 other families in the neighborhood. In 2008-2009, the first wave of expulsions occurred, including an incident where an elderly man had a stroke and died during the removal process. The speaker's family and the Hanoone families were also forcibly thrown out of their homes. Settlers then took over half of the speaker's home, justifying it as divine decree. In 2020, the speaker's family received another expulsion order and launched a campaign to demystify the situation and garner global support. Due to international pressure, the Israeli Supreme Court canceled all eviction orders, but the speaker's family still faces the risk of losing their homes in the future due to land registry issues. This victory highlighted the political nature of the battle, shifting the focus from a legal dispute to a wider struggle against colonialism.
