Transition of Attachment Styles and Therapist Intervention
Individuals may transition from dismissing to preoccupied attachment styles before reaching a secure attachment. For those with disorganized attachment, they may initially display missing elements, then show anxious-preoccupied behaviors before improving. In cases of disorganized attachment, the root of fear lies in the attachment figure. The ideal parent figures must understand that they can receive comfort from an attachment figure, replacing fear with soothing. Therapists often play a crucial role in introducing the concept of seeking comfort from attachment figures to individuals with disorganized attachment, as it is not ingrained in their subconscious, necessitating collaborative work to instill these new beliefs.
