Efficiency of Directory Usage on ZFS
Performing a DU -HSC operation on a folder with numerous subfolders and files can be CPU intensive. Comparing the performance on different partitions, it was found that on LVM and XFS it took 21 seconds, on ZFS without compression and encryption it took 2 minutes 3 seconds, and with compression and encryption it took seven minutes, seven seconds. ZFS was notably slower even without encryption and compression. To enhance the speed of directory usage on ZFS, setting xattr equals sa on the directory hosting NextCloud files before unzipping them is crucial. By doing so, ZFS can store the metadata for each file more efficiently, resulting in improved performance.
