The government initiated programs like special registration for Muslim males, claiming it was to secure borders, though it was discriminatory. This led to a fear of Muslims as fifth columnists in society. Islamophobia had infiltrated American culture even before Barack Obama, exacerbated by Donald Trump's proposed Muslim ban. The ban led to vigilante violence in the country.
