NOTE

The Day of Absence at Evergreen State College

Evergreen State College is a small progressive college in Washington State known for its unconventional approach to education. Students receive narrative evaluations instead of grades and can design their own course of study. Despite criticism, there are examples of unique majors like outdoor recreation. The college also has an annual tradition called the day of absence, where students of color stay off campus to raise awareness. In 2017, there was a proposal to invert the tradition and ask white students and faculty to stay away.
