NOTE

The Emotional Arcs of Stories

Stories follow emotional arcs that can be depicted as wave shapes, with various trajectories such as rise-then-fall, fall-then-rise, or rise-fall-rise. This concept was developed by Vonegat and M.I.T. researchers who identified six basic emotional arcs of stories: rags to riches, tragedy, man in a hole, icarus, cinderella, and oedipus. These emotional arcs reflect wave dynamics, with oscillations in relation to a center. All stories, songs, and even natural phenomena follow this wave-like pattern, representing expansion and contraction, which is considered the fabric of reality.
