War on Gender with Comedian Omid Djalili

The war on gender has many fronts. In a time of unprecedented division among genders, comedian Omid Djalili shares a cautionary tale of the history of Iran’s two revolutions, how women-led revolutions are our best chance of liberating us all, and how men can make a difference from the West.Around the world women’s rights to freedom, justice and civil rights are being infringed upon and, in the case of Iran, violently attacked. The protests and revolution are a struggle for freedom and equality. This is not a fight against the hijab or against men. It is a fight against ignorance and as such it is supported fiercely by the men of Iran who are suffering a majority of casualties in their activism.New episodes every Monday 🎙️ The video version of every episode will always be available on the @wearemanenough YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/WeAreManEnough The Man Enough Podcast is produced by Wayfarer Studios and presented by Procter and Gamble, in partnership with Cadence13, an Audacy company.Show Notes:00:00 Episode Starts 02:30 Intros05:40 When was the last time you didn’t feel enough?06:45 How men can support women risking their lives in Iran20:50 Why should people care what’s happening in Iran to women (global vs one country)28:57 You can’t burn women made of fire31:24 “Men have been afraid, because they don’t know how to handle the fire”34:55 Are women better than men?47:50 Navigating Political Comedy57:34 What does it mean to be Man EnoughKey Quotes from the Episode: “You Can’t Burn Women Made of Fire”Background on the Iran RevolutionThe protests in Iran we are seeing today erupted in mid-September after the death of Mahsa Amini, while she was in the custody of the “morality police” for allegedly violating the country’s hijab law by showing a bit of her hair. Women and youth have been leading the protests, demanding social freedom and political change, gender equality and the end of the state’s regime. Crowds have continued to gather in defiance of the authorities even as the government recently pledged harsh punishment for defiers — including executions. While numbers are difficult to verify due to the lack of independent reporting in Iran, 19,200 protesters have been detained and 469 people including 63 children and 32 women have been killed since the protests began, according to the latest figures by the Human Rights Activists News Agency, or HRANA. About Omid Djalili:Omid is a critically acclaimed actor and stand up comedian. He recently starred in the Netflix Global drama The Letter for the King and the HBO/BBC series His Dark Materials. A Perrier Award nominee in 2002 and Edinburgh Comedy Award Panel Prize winner in 2016, Omid is known for his work in projects like The Mummy, Casanova, and, The Omid Djalili Show, and a Whoopi Goldberg's NBC sitcom Whoopi. ‘Daddy Issues’ with Jamey, Liz and guest host Andy Grammer

Daddy Issues aren’t exclusive to women and they certainly aren’t their fault.Jamey, Liz and returning guest host Andy Grammer look at the powerful relationships we have with our fathers and discuss why challenges with dads are often put on daughters rather than the fathers themselves. The hosts reflect on both the positive and negative impacts their own fathers had on their lives (spoiler alert: they were all pretty great in their own ways). Liz talks about the effect of having a dad with extremely high standards. Andy and Jamey share how they hope to impact their own children's lives. And Jamey calls his daughter live, which you don't want to miss.New episodes every Monday 🎙️ The video version of every episode and bonus features will always be available on the @wearemanenough YouTube channel (youtube.com/WeAreManEnough) and at ManEnough.com/podcast   The Man Enough Podcast is produced by Wayfarer Studios and presented by Procter and Gamble, in partnership with Cadence13, an Audacy company.Music In This EpisodeAndy Grammer ‘Good Man’Good Man (First Love) - song and lyrics by Andy Grammer - https://open.spotify.com › trackRed Grammer ‘Teaching Peace’Teaching Peace - song and lyrics by Red Grammer - Spotify - https://open.spotify.com › trackAbout Guest Host Andy Grammer:Multi-platinum performer Andy Grammer is a gifted artist and songwriter with a bent toward contemporary soul and pop.
