(Eschaton)Eschatology Matters!
Your view of end-times matters. We begin our long awaited and anticipated series on the Messiah's victory in history: ESCHATON. We are humbled, honored, and excited to be given the privilege of walking you through the exciting conclusion of the history of humanity. Warning: much of what you have been told about end-times in our modern Christian culture might be wrong.
Eschatology (the study of last-things) takes a prominent role throughout the Scriptures. What we believe about this matters- it will affect your life, your reading of Scripture, and the legacy you leave for the Kingdom. Get ready to have your world rocked!
He shall have dominion.

Exceeding Righteousness
A NOTE FROM JEFF
The Kingdom of God: Exceeding Righteousness
We've spent a considerable amount of time contemplating, unpacking, and exegeting the text of Matthew 5:17. It is my earnest prayer that our time in this section of Scripture has been transformative and edifying for the Saints and Apologia Church. Today, we will be looking at and listening to the Lord Jesus' statement about the righteousness of the Pharisees. What does He mean that our righteousness has to exceed the righteousness of those disciplined religious people? Is Jesus teaching moralism as a way to God? Is He teaching that only a stellar obedience to God's Law will avail before Him on the Last Day?
I pray the truth we search out today will be a blessing to your life for now and eternity. Truthfully, this is where the whole message of what God does in the Gospel rests.
No King but Christ!

Jesus & The Law Pt. 3
We are now beginning a very controversial portion of the Sermon on the Mount. It is not controversial due to whether or not the Lord Jesus is sufficiently clear. No. The text presently before us is controversial due to the nature of the host of theological systems of thought we often bring to the text of God's Word.
What was Jesus' attitude toward the Law of God?
Does God do away with the Law He gave in the Old Testament?
In what way is the Law of God fulfilled?
Aren't Christians under grace?
How are believers under the New Covenant supposed to relate to God's Law under the New Covenant?
We hope to faithfully answer these questions and many more as we unpack this vitally important section of God's Word. My hope, as a pastor, is that God would use this study to transform us as a body and allow us to be used by Him to proclaim the excellencies of His Gospel and His Law.
Soli Deo Gloria!

Salt & Light Pt. 4
We are continuing our exposition of the Gospel According to Matthew. We call this series: The Kingdom of God. Matthew's Gospel contains the repeated affirmation of the rule and kingship of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus comes on time and as planned. His coming is not a "plan B" in the redemptive purposes of God within history. With that said, we must remember that the Old Testament promised that God was going to do something in history that changed the shape of history, people, and the world... forever.
The Messiah was to rule in history. This rule would be redemptive in nature: it was about salvation. This salvation would extend to the ends of the earth and would bring forth the light of God, justice, and the law of God (Isaiah 2, 9, 11, & 42). The Lord Jesus sits upon the Mount and begins to pronounce His blessings of divine happiness upon His people. The Beatitudes wrap up with something that ought to give us a moment or two of meditation and thoughtful reflection. We are the preservative of the world. We are the means of God's grace for the darkness scattering and fleeing once and for all from the world.
This is big.
This little section says something about God's purpose for the people of God in the world. He means to use us for something. The truth that Jesus saves sinners must never been relinquished or abandoned. However, the lie that Jesus simply saves sinners must be repudiated and rejected with horror. God is remaking the world in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the beginning of the New Creation. We are all new creations in Jesus Christ. God intends on reshaping the world through the means of His people: the church. How? Let's open His Word.
Soli Deo Gloria!

Defying Tyrants is Obedience to God
With the recent lawless kidnapping of Kim Davis for Christian beliefs, it’s important for us to understand the law of God and God ordained spheres of authority. God, in the Scriptures, gives us a full orbed worldview. This includes law, procedural law, case law, laws regarding civil magistrates, interposition, and more.
How are we to be salt and light in light of Kim Davis’ kidnapping? Jeff Durbin explains by starting in Matthew and then moving into Romans 13.
