Marginalized voices have always been at the forefront of the internet, yet our stories often go overlooked. Bridget Todd chronicles our experiences online, and the ways marginalized voices have shaped the internet from the very beginning. She Called a Black Child a Slur — Then Raised $700K. Kiandria Demone Is Saying ‘Not Today.’
Welcome to Season 5 of There Are No Girls on the Internet   We're kicking things off with a powerful and timely conversation. Bridget speaks with activist, entrepreneur and creator Kiandria Demone, the visionary behind the viral #SquareUpForJustice campaign. After a white woman in Minnesota hurled a racial slur at a 5-year-old Black child and then raised nearly $1 million online, Kiandria stepped up to challenge the systems that made it possible. Her campaign holds payment platforms accountable for enabling and profiting from hate. In this episode, Kiandria explains why this isn’t just a race issue—it’s a tech accountability issue. She shares how her digital activism is helping expose and shut down racist profiteering, and what it means to find strength in online communities during heavy times. . .  Support Kiandria’s campaign: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-5n3WUw13NYEe6VVOh03x8goGZb9fd_04nERHz4vzaI/edit?tab=t.0 Check out the cool items in Kiandria's shop: https://femmefindsatl.com/  Follow us for original videos, infographics, and content throughout the week:Instagram: @BridgetMarieInDCTikTok: @BridgetMarieInDCYouTube: @ThereAreNoGirlsOnTheInternet . .  Whether you’ve been listening for years or are just joining us, thank you for spending your time with us. FEED SWAP! Time traveling with AI to connect with lost loved ones | Amy Kruzweil and TED Tech
This is an episode from the podcast TED Tech, hosted by Sherrel Dorsey. We're sharing it with TANGOTI listeners as part of a feed swap with them, exchanging two episodes that address similar topics but land in very different places. We hope you enjoy it.  What if AI could bring the past to life? In this episode from the podcast TED Tech, host Sherrell Dorsey shares a talk from cartoonist Amy Kurzweil about how she helped train an AI chatbot on her late grandfather’s archives, allowing her to connect with a family member she never met — and discover family history she never knew. Backed by her own original drawings, she reveals the profound impact art and AI can have in keeping memories alive.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Target drops DEI so we're boycotting everything - STUFF MOM NEVER TOLD YOU
Bridget is hard at work on the new season of TANGOTI, launching in May! Stay tuned for more info, and more pre-launch drops here in the feed!   In the meantime, Bridget went on Stuff Mom Never Told You to talk about how shameless big companies like Walmart and Target abandoned their diversity and inclusion commitments in a misguided attempt to satisfy MAGA blowhards (spoiler: it will not satisfy them). Now customers are calling for a national, general, buy-nothing boycott on Friday, Feb 28. Bridget breaks it all down, and explains why she'll be joining the boycott and why she thinks you should, too.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Your kid doesn’t need $70 face cream
Young girls are increasingly drawn to pricey skincare products, influenced heavily by social media. The phenomenon of 'Sephora kids' highlights how cosmetic obsessions can affect self-worth. Brands like Drunk Elephant target tweens, raising concerns about their marketing and the impact on self-image. There's a push for better media literacy and parental guidance around skincare use. The discussion also emphasizes challenging harmful beauty norms and encouraging natural appearances, especially during the holiday season.

We Ruined Travel for Instagram Likes
Let's escape December's darkness with a mental vacation to some exotic travel locales. Tulum! Bali! Lisbon! Millions of people visit these popular tourist destinations, but why? Is it for personal growth and discovery, or are we just chasing social rewards by notching another iconic photo on our Instagram page? Maybe it's both!  The idea that "social media has ruined travel" gets brought up a lot by grumbly Internet curmudgeons, but is it true? Bridget took a look at what social science has to say about it and discussed what she found with Producer Mike.  Read the research article by Drs. Lauren A. Disinfo Dialogue: Race & Ethnicity Roundtable - TANGOTI Bonus
Last year Bridget hosted a roundtable on racialized disinformation attacks with three incredible experts. They talked about the long historical foundations that bad actors have built on to amplify divisions and racial divisions, and the ways tech platforms and other institutions have been used to not only perpetuate disinformation but also make record profits doing it. While marginalized people are disproportionately at risk, disinfo affects everyone. These narratives were a huge problem leading up to the election, and I'm sad to say they will remain a huge problem going forward. The roundtable was part of a video project with the great production company Exposure Labs. We're grateful to them and showrunner Josh Clark for the opportunity to be part of it, and for DCP Entertainment for making it possible.  And special thanks to the incredible panelists for sharing their prescient insight: Jessica Ann Mitchell Aiwuyor, Founder of the National Black Cultural Information Trust; Liz Lebron, Founder & President of Blue Nexus Group; and Jaya Savita Aiyer, Director of the Asian Pacific Islanders Civic Action Network.
