Art Startups
Welding refers to the fabrication process that causes materials such as metals, thermoplastics, and others to coalesce. It is an important process for constructing various objects and structures. Welding is mostly applied in building construction and creation of functional objects, but welding can be used for works of art, such as sculptures. Sculptural welding requires extensive knowledge and skill because it involves welding materials of different shapes and colors.
Matt DeCoursey has a discussion about the art business with guest, Jay Lockett of Stainless Floral and Jay Fabwerks—the CEO, Janitor, Social Media Manager and HR Generalist of his own company. After becoming a skilled welder, Lockett decided he didn’t want to work for anyone, so he started his own business.
He did many of the standard welding jobs but, He also tried his hand at sculptural art when trying to win back the heart of a girl. While he didn't manage to win her back, he did come to realize his proficiency in stainless steel art. This led him to begin another facet of his welding business, creating art with welding. His most prized piece is the Titanium Diamond Eternity Rose that costs $250,000. Intrigued why it costs so much? Tune in to this podcast to find out!

Biotech Startups
What if we were to tell you that CO2 can be converted to animal feed? Would you believe me? The level of CO2 in the atmosphere has been growing at an alarming rate, which has led to an increase in the average global temperature. CO2 emissions are almost an uncontrollable environmental problem affecting the people globally. But modern technology creates an opportunity to convert industrial carbon dioxide into a valuable commodity.
Matt DeCoursey and guest David Tze, CEO of NovoNutrients, discuss an impressive technology that can turn CO2 into animal feed.
In 2017, Tze achieved the goal of his research fund and invested in NovoNutrients. The “feed and food from CO2” company transforms industrial carbon dioxide into feed ingredients through industrial biotech.
NovoNutrients is a fundamentally new way to make the building blocks of food using natural microbes to break down molecules and reassemble them into low-cost feed and food ingredients.

Dog Park Meetups
The moment your dog comes into your life, you build a bond and make a promise to nurture and care. Being a responsible dog owner is a serious commitment that requires your time and energy. As a dog owner, you want our dogs to be happy and healthy, and what better way to nurture that than through helping them socialize with other pups?
It’s a paw-tastic day here at the studio, as Matt DeCoursey sits in with guest, PawConX founder and pack leader, Kwinton Scarborough as they talk about a playdate messaging app for dogs and their dog owners.
PawConX creates an innovative method allowing dogs to use their natural ability to select preferred playmates and build their dog pack. This platform creates a culture where selecting preferred playmates and creating a dog pack is in the hands (paws) of your dogs; ultimately letting dog owners provide a humanlike socializing experience for their pet. It creates bonds between dogs as tightly as those of their human best friends.

My Bear Jeff
My Bear Jeff is a buy one, give one teddy bear company to support kids dealing with trauma. Every time a bear is purchased, its twin is delivered to a qualifying child through nonprofit partners.
Matt talks with My Bear Jeff's founder, Rachel Cohen, who created this company from the intersection of several personal experiences. The first being a rare heart diagnosis at the age of 4 and recovering from a high-risk procedure that could have cost her life. The second came from her time in Southeast Asia working with children who were dealing with extreme trauma every day. She returned home with a pure, burning desire to support these kids.
Rachel recognized that something as simple as a treasured teddy bear could create a critical form of comfort and support that a child needs, and the idea for My Bear Jeff was born.

Athlete Entrepreneurship
In this episode, the Matts get the chance to talk with former Major League Baseball relief pitcher Jeff Montgomery.
Montgomery talks about his journey as a baseball player, from being in the minor leagues to making it to the major leagues. He played Major League Baseball for 13 years, 12 of which were for the Kansas City Royals.
Breaking the traditional closer mold, Montgomery became one of the most reliable relief aces in baseball that led his team in saves for over ten years with his unconventional four-pitch repertoire. He was a three-time All-Star and Royals Pitcher of the Year in 1998.
After retiring, he invested in sports radio, which he said is the best investment he has made. He mentioned how his experience as an athlete prepared him to become an entrepreneur and taught him an important lesson - that failure is part of the game.
Get more of Montgomery on this episode and hear how he describes the similarities between baseball and entrepreneurship!

Building a great brand or business is a rigorous and often frustrating process. But what about rebuilding a business that has been closed for ages? In order to rebuild a business to its former glory, you will have to re-establish your network, restore your business community relationships, and find ways to develop your product according to your current market. In this podcast episode, the Matts welcome their guest Andy Rieger, founder of J. Rieger & Co. Andy is the third generation grandson of Jacob Rieger. J. Rieger & Co originally started in Kansas in 1887, only to meet an early demise in 1919 with the onset of the 18th Amendment and Federal Prohibition.
In 2012 Andy Rieger and Ryan Maybee, a career bartender and restaurateur, set out to revive this historic brand. Together, they formed a bond drawn from their shared vision of re-establishing, not only Andy’s family legacy but also reviving the distilling industry in Kansas City. In 2014, the duo relaunched J. Rieger & Co., Kansas City’s first distillery since prohibition, through the release of “Rieger’s Kansas City Whiskey”, a unique style of American Whiskey that pays tribute to J. Rieger & Co.’s history. Learn from the challenges that Andy faced on rebuilding his family’s historical business and how he was able to grow the demand for their product in Kansas City in just 4 years.
