God created you to live together, in concrete, physical relationships, serving and sacrificing for the health and well-being of the person standing in front of you. God created you for communion. Forgiveness releases to God what rightly belongs to him. Since God is “the Judge of all the earth who will do what is right,” releasing to God's judgment the one who sinned against you places the offense in the purest context of judgment. Forgiving releases the grievance and the offender to God’s all-knowing perspective and to his justice and mercy. This honors Jesus by placing matters into His nail-pierced hands to uphold His judgment, as He chooses, in His time.
