Mark Hall-Patton retired in 2021 as the Museums Administrator for the Clark County museum system, where he oversaw the Clark County Museum, the Howard W. Cannon Aviation Museum, and the Searchlight History Museum.  He had been with Clark County for twenty-eight years, and was previously the Director of the San Luis Obispo County Historical Museum in California.  He worked for both public and private non-profit museums, and continues to consult with start-up and established museums and museum boards. He is a MAP surveyor for the American Alliance of Museums, and the author of four books, over 450 published articles, and 85 monographs on local and regional history.  He has also written and produced 48 local history videos.  In 2009, he hosted a live interview program on CCTV television in the Vegas valley, and is regularly seen on the History Channel’s Pawn Stars as a visiting expert.  He has also appeared on American Restoration, United Stuff of America, America Facts and Fallacies,10 Things You Don’t Know About American History, Vegas PBS, TMZ Sports, CSPAN 3, Mysteries at the Museum, Hoarders, ABC’s 20/20, PBS, the Arte channel in France, and the BBC Radio World Service. Chef Charity grew up in Southern California, as the oldest of 6 children. She started performing in musical theater when she was just 4 years old. Charity damaged not one, but 2 Easy Bake Ovens as a child before her mother decided to teach her how to use the “big” oven. By age 12 she had tapped out her mother and grandmother’s cooking knowledge and hit the books as she wanted to know more. As A 6th grader, she entered her first cake competition/auction. When she was 16 she went to work for a local custom cake shop called Flour Power in a nearby town. After her first year at University, where she was majoring in International business and minoring in Voice and French, she went to culinary school in Paris, France at Le Ritz Escoffier, although she didn’t finish her degree there. After working in various industries; computer, graphics, radio, entertainment, restaurant and grocery, commercial food production, she finished her degree at Grossmont College in Pastry Arts. Chef Charity is the Pastry Chef and Cake Artist for Nailed it! On Netflix. She’s the magic hands that makes all the cakes and other treats the contestants attempt to copy in the Emmy Nominated comedy baking show on Netflix. Charity specializes in chocolate and sugar art particularly with regards to wedding, specialty and extreme cakes. She has also specialized in baking and cooking for those with food allergies and sensitivities, which she terms “Free Baking”. Greetings optimists! I hope that life is good for you. Things have been busy and amazing here at Optimist HQ. Having become FCA registered in the last month I’m helping some amazing people with their mortgages and also helping some travel clients with their holidays as well. But whatever you’re doing I hope you’re feeling great!   Okay, it’s that time again for another episode of the travelling optimist. So get yourself ready, turn up the volume and get set for a really inspirational conversation about the life and journey of Kelly Cardenas. I’ve wanted to get Kelly on the show for a while , I’ve followed him on the socials and was honoured to guest on his incredible podcast last year - finally we were able to align our diaries so I could repay the favour and get him to share his life and experiences with you.  Kelly is a true optimist, these foundations were very much laid from a positive upbringing and having incredible parents who consistently re-enforced Kelly’s life with positive affirmations that have had a profound and beautiful effect on his life and ones that Kelly is now passing on to his children. I guess if you are going to leave a legacy, that is a pretty good one. Kelly has been featured in Forbes magazine, spoken to thousands of people all over the world about what it takes to be a success and run a successful business. But it’s not all been roads paved with gold. There have been failures, a lot of money has been lost but he was never hindered by the the fear of failure. Because failure isn’t a word in Kelly’s vocab. There's only winning or learning, never failure.
