Student View: Julieta Brennan

In this episode, David and Angélica sit down with Julieta Brennan, a third-year Mathematical Sciences student, to explore her journey in choosing a statistics-focused path. Julieta shares her passion for data analysis and how this skill set opens up numerous opportunities in her field. She also dives into the tools she relies on, highlighting ChatGPT as one of the key resources. Initially unaware of its potential as an educational aid, it wasn't until her lecturers highlighted it—especially in exam contexts—that Julieta started using it to assist with multiple-choice questions. However, she candidly discusses her frustration with the platform, particularly when it comes to mathematics. Julieta explains that while helpful in some cases, ChatGPT often provides incorrect answers for formulae and algebraic expressions. This episode offers a balanced view of the advantages and limitations of integrating AI tools like ChatGPT into academic study. This episode is produced by the KBS Digital Hub-Grzegorz Rogala

Student View: Agata Lynch

In this episode, Erin and Angélica speak with a 4th year PhD student in sociology, Agata Lynch. Agata's research focuses on gender disparity in Physics and how the UL-run SOPHIA project impacts bringing more women into the field of physics. English is not Agata's primary language, so she has found innovative and useful ways to use GenAI to facilitate her research. Agata uses ChatGPT and Co-pilot and discusses tips, benefits and negative aspects of GenAI. She finds that short prompts and short pieces of text work best for her in terms of style and grammar. It helps with phrasing in the English language. Agata advises to dive in and get used to the interaction as a learn-by-doing approach.
