On this day of infamy, Mike asks friend and podcaster Francesca Fiorentini to read the first feminist proclamation from 1791 — “Declaration of the Rights of Women” by Olympe de Gouges. It’s sickening how little has changed. For her treason against the patriarchy, de Gouges was beheaded. A thought that must make this Court smile. The night of the Uvalde massacre, Michael gave his first televised response to a mass shooting in over a decade. And what he said was so powerful, and so truthful, it frightened Democrats who are afraid to go all the way to stop this madness. It frightened Republicans so much, one their craziest, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), took to the House floor this week to denounce Michael by name during the debate on possible new gun laws. What did he say? Last week we blinked and opened our eyes to a vision of a different world. A nightmare foretold is to become our future — a U.S. citizen who becomes pregnant can be stripped of their bodily autonomy and forced, by the U.S. government, to give birth. Attempt to abort the fetus, and you can be charged with murder. The idea of that reality is draconian and horrific. But what most people don’t know is that we are already living in a reality that is much more sinister.
