Ep. 100: Meet My Cousin, The President

During an episode of “Finding Your Roots” on PBS with Henry Louis Gates Jr., a search through Michael’s family history unearthed a shocking revelation: Michael Moore is related to America’s 31st President, 1929-1933, Republican Herbert Hoover. After grappling with the fact (and the irony) that the Franklin Delano Roosevelt-loving, Democratic party-supporting Moore family was actually related to FDR’s Republican predecessor, Michael decided to search deeper into his roots during a trip earlier this year to Hoover’s home state of Iowa. This episode was recorded at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library, Museum and birthplace in West Branch, Iowa. After touring the museum, Michael sat down with three archivists, Craig Wright, Elizabeth Dinschel and Lynn Smith, to learn more about Hoover and the Great Depression, Hoover’s ill-fated presidency, and his Quaker roots. Michael struggles over whether he wants to go public about his connection with Hoover, but then realizes there may be some perks if a President was your cousin. Michael asks if he can crash on the Hoover couch for the night, seeing how, you know, he’s family. ****************** WATCH: Michael Moore on "Finding Your Roots With Henry Louis Gates Jr." on PBS https://www.pbs.org/weta/finding-your-roots/watch/episodes/hard-times ****************** Special offer for Rumble listeners from NetSuite! Ep. 99: One Full Wuhan Every Single Day in the USA (feat. Dr. Irwin Redlener)

Dr. Irwin Redlener is a nationally-renowned pediatrician, scholar, longtime advocate for children's health and a top expert on disaster preparedness who directs the Pandemic Resource and Response Initiative at Columbia University’s Earth Institute. He has been serving the American public blunt truths about the coronavirus pandemic from the very beginning, and he shares some frightening new assessments about where we might soon land: One million new cases EVERY DAY — and 800,000 to 1.5 million of us DEAD by November if we don't get our act together yesterday. He and Michael have an animated discussion about how Trump's America screwed up the response to Covid-19, how Joe Biden could actually just start leading the real pandemic response we need NOW (and from his basement!) which would save tens of thousands of lives, and finally Dr. Redlener gets Michael to promise to personally call  Vice President Biden and tell him what he just told his podcast audience. The call will be made. Today’s Children Are The Pandemic Generation. For Millions, The Future Is Now Grim. By Irwin Redlener and Karen B. Ep. 98: "Ladies and Gentlemen, This Is The Plague" (feat. Laurie Garrett)

Since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, Pulitzer Prize-winning science writer Laurie Garrett has been the most blunt and forthright analyst warning the public about how destructive the virus will be. She has been sounding the alarm on our lack of preparedness for a pandemic since her 1994 book, "The Coming Plague." Her warnings were not heeded. The United States has now bungled it's response and we are hitting record-high numbers of new cases. She joins Michael for a discussion about all aspects of the pandemic, including the disastrous decisions by President Trump and President Xi, what myths have persisted about the virus, whether schools might open in the fall, why the economic impact has not yet reached bottom, and the social and psychological effects we will be dealing with for many years. We need to hear the unvarnished truth if we are going to find our way out of this. Garrett says we should call this what it is, a plague, and she offers a way out should anyone want to listen. ********************** Laurie's website: https://www.lauriegarrett.com/ Follow Laurie on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Laurie_Garrett Laurie's books: "The Coming Plague" https://amzn.to/31Jl4SZ "Betrayal of Trust: The Collapse of Global Public Health" https://amzn.to/2VO5Hou **********************

Ep. 95: Are We Ready For The Big Trump Surprise?

We are in the middle of a perfect storm of white supremacy, fascism, a police killing spree, an uprising against it, the Coronavirus pandemic, and a mad genius who will be willing to fake his own vaccine shot just to get re-elected in an election he has no intention of holding. If Tulsa taught him anything it was that he cannot trust the poor redneck racists to come out for him. So he’s already on to Plan Z while we’re wondering what B is. Michael weaves together all of these elements and raises the question about what a desperate Trump is plotting between now and November 3rd — and invites his listeners to help him come up with a series of strategies to guarantee Trump’s unconditional surrender. ******** Email your ideas to Mike at: mike@michaelmoore.com ******** Music in episode: BET Awards Performance: Chuck D, Nas, YG, Black Thought & Rapsody - "Fight the Power" https://www.bet.com/video/betawards/2020/performances/chuck-d-nas-black-thought-and-rapsody.html The violin at the end was part of a vigil for Elijah McClain in Aurora that was interrupted by a Swat Team. Ep. 93: Juneteenth (feat. Congresswoman Barbara Lee, D-CA, The granddaughter of a slave)

Two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was supposed to have freed the slaves, news of the war ending — and that Lincoln had freed the slaves back in 1863 — finally made it to Galveston, Texas, on June 19th, 1965. So Texas, against its will, finally re-joined the rest of the Union, all slaves were freed and Juneteenth is now the holiday truly commemorating the freeing of all the slaves in America. Congresswoman Barbara Lee's grandfather was born a slave in Galveston post-Emancipation Proclamation, but weeks before Juneteenth, making this commemoration especially meaningful to Rep. Lee and her family. On this 155th commemoration of Juneteenth, Rep. Lee joins Michael to discuss the never-ending struggle for freedom for Black Americans and her courageous, lone vote against a never-ending war, 3 days after 9/11. ************ Read More About Rep. The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 had had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance of the white racist slave owners and the poor white population willing to die for those rich racist bastards. Crazy! Texas today is no longer a “white state.” 58% of its population is now made up of Black, Hispanic, Asian and other people of color. **********************

Ep. 91 Good News: LGBT Victory! Bad News: Executed for Dozing While Black

In some much needed great news, the conservative U.S. Supreme Court, with the majority opinion written by Trump appointed Justice Neil Gorsuch, ruled today to protect the rights of LGBTQ Americans in the workplace and prevent them from being discriminated against. This followed the terrible news this weekend of the death of Rayshard Brooks, another Black American man killed while running away from police after committing the crime of falling asleep at a Wendy's drive-thru window in Atlanta. Michael Moore shares his thoughts on these two major stories, plus his reaction to Trump tweeting at him again. ******************** Mentioned in the episode: Yes, We Mean Literally Abolish the Police Because reform won’t happen. Ep. 90: No More Police State (feat. Alex S. Vitale)

The idea of police "reform" has been tried and has failed. Rather than call for milquetoast reforms that leave the structure of U.S. law enforcement in place, many of the protestors are calling to "defund the police." Michael is joined by Alex S. Vitale, author of "The End of Policing" to explain what this means, how this works, any why settling for half-measures will result in more police violence against Black Americans. Download Alex's book "The End of Policing" for free: https://www.versobooks.com/books/2426-the-end-of-policing The answer to police violence is not 'reform'. It's defunding.
