But, what comes with this ease is also confusion. Why? There's not just a low barrier to entry to become a "guru" or "expert," there is literally NO barrier to entry. Got a cell phone and an Internet connection and you can label yourself "a pro!" So how do you know who's good and who's good for you? Simple. I break it all down for you in today's episode! If you want to know what the best resume format is, you need to know how someone looks at your resume, what they're looking for, and where they're hoping to find it. Ya know that question you get in a job interview, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" I think it comes straight out of the employer interview manual that seems to sit and, unfortunately, not collect dust on their shelves. The overly-thick one with the title "Complete-Waste-Of-Time Questions" embroidered on the spine. Well, I think it's a silly job interview question, but I think it's a darn good question in general for you to ask yourself. The part about where you actually see yourself in 5 years. For YOU! There are generally two reasons people make bad decisions. Their decision-making mechanics are poor. They're deciding without all the information or the information they have is incorrect. Enter recruitment. Hiring. And their convoluted practices. Which basically ensure the job seeker will become helpless when it comes to the second reason. Ever been asked, "What's your expected salary?" Think you know what you're worth? Even if you did, would you share that with some silly, inexperienced recruiter who's trying to make sure you fit into some corporate box? Here is a capital "T" truth. I don't want you to dodge this question because I said so. I want you to avoid this like the next pandemic. Why? Because, at this moment in the hiring process, neither you nor that recruiter know the most important factor—what that company is willing to offer to hire YOU at this very moment based on their specific circumstances and potential contributions. Pay attention to the echoes because everything you do has an effect on someone or something. What you do has an effect. What you say has an effect. What you don't do, don't say has an effect.
