This historical summary of the eschatological debates between Bible-believing Christians in the mid- to late-twentieth century will concentrate on the attack of a resurgent Amillennialism upon a dominant Dispensationalism. I believe this concentration is justified by the fact that these two viewpoints have emerged as the dominant `players’ in the eschatological match of our century. Pastor Ron continues to tell the story of Mistress Sarah Wight, the 15 year old rescued by the grace of God in a time of great distress. Pastor Ron tells the story of a remarkable conversion which is recorded in the oldest original Particular Baptist book he owns. The book was printed in 1652 in London and is titled, The Exceeding Riches of Grace, Advanced by the Spirit of Grace in an Empty-Nothing Creature, Mistress Sarah Wight, Lately Hopeless and Restless Her Soul Now Hopeful and Joyful in the Lord that hath Caused Light to Shine out of the Darkness, that in and by this Earthen Vessel holds forth His Own Eternal Love and the Glorious Grace of Jesus Christ to the Chiefest of Sinners. Postmillennial expectations gradually grew up in the general context of the Puritan movement centered in the British Isles. Premillennialism arose in the 1800’s arose in reaction to the dominant postmillennial viewpoint we have just mentioned.
