An Antidote Against Infection | Particular Pilgrims

As mentioned in our last episode, the early Welsh Particular Baptist churches regularly met in association. One of the many things that came out of those meetings was a small book entitled “An Antidote Against the Infection of the Times or A Faithful Watch-word from Mount Sion to prevent the ruin of soules”. It was almost certainly written by John Myles for the churches. He was 35 at the time. John Myles and the Welsh Particular Baptists | Particular Pilgrims

John Myles and the Welsh Particular Baptists One of the major suppliers of Baptists to the English colonies was Wales. There the Particular Baptist beginnings mirrored the English in many ways. In the 1630s, Puritan influence began to be felt on the borders of Wales and England. Allegiance to the Catholic church was still strong as was Anglicanism. But gospel preaching began to birth dissenters and specifically of the congregational or independent kind with a desire for religious toleration. Then in the English Civil wars, the Parliamentary army men spread their congregational and Baptist views. Baptist chaplains, soldiers, and itinerant preachers following the army had an impact. And it was at this point that the most important future Welsh Baptist came into contact with these men. His name was John Myles or Miles.
