Ep 187 - Holly Rush on running influencers, PBs and switching to ultras
Send us a textBoy, is Holly Rush an interesting guest in this episode of Bad Boy Running! (And Jody and David didn't make a single joke about nominative determinism!) Starting out in marathons as fun runner, Holly explains her journey from standing as a spectator watching with a beer to going all the way to the European Championships and representing England and Great Britain. She talks about her frustration at trying to beat a PB that just wouldn't fall and her eventual move into ultrarunning. That, in itself, is a fascinating story, but now Holly leads the Asics Frontrunner programme that brings on ordinary runners as ambassadors for the brand. David quizzes Holly on the programme and her thoughts about running social media influencers and the direction of the sport. And then the discussion turns to Marathon Talk for which Holly is a presenter. Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Ep 186 - George Rendall on rise and fall of Mile 27 runner's coffee shop
Send us a textWe know cyclists have a ton of places they can hang out socially (so we can avoid those places...), but what about runners? Well, the runner's cafe Mile 27 aimed to offer a place for runner's to come together to both run, socialise and be a community in central London. And it worked... for a time. In this episode, Jody and David speak to its founder George Rendall about the idea behind the cafe/club, what it took to get working and what happened in the end (spoiler: he has another coffee shop, Lane Eight Coffee in Dulwich) The great thing about this episode is how open and honest George is about everything that went wrong and why it didn't quite work as planned. A real insight into trying to turn your ideas into reality. Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Join the conversation! Ep 185 - Stuart Hamilton on The OMM
Send us a textThe Original Mountain Marathon (The OMM) is one of the longest running event series in the UK. It rightly has the position as one if the most challenging series, not simply because of the distances or elevation in any of the remote locations where the OMM is set, but also because of the logistics competitors need to get spot on if they are to do well. David speaks to Stuart Hamilton, events director at The OMM about the history of the event and what it really takes to put an event on. David also sets up another challenge for Jody... that may just result in the end of the podcast. Enjoy!
