Ep 212 - Mimi Anderson on life post-ultrarunning
Send us a textWe don't care what you've done in ultrarunning, your achievements are nothing compared with Mimi Anderson's. With a bunch of Guinness World Records to her name, Mimi has ticked off so many of the iconic ultraraces and more, including Double Badwater, Spartathlon, 6633 Ultra, JOGLE, and won a legion of fans in the process. She's known as the world's most inspirational female runner for a reason. Starting her running career at 36, Mimi jumped straight into the frying pan with the Marathon des Sables and her list of achievements quickly grew from there. Running offered Mimi so much, but the level of endurance has also caused issues and injuries which now prevents her from competing at the same level (sadly, she's turned to the Dark Side, i.e. triathlon). David talks to Mimi about her career and the impact shifting away from running is having - plus a warning for those ultrarunners who are pushing themselves to the edge. Enjoy! Ep 211 - Joe Oldendorf on crawling 12 hours to save his life
Send us a textDo you have a survivor's instinct? Would you step up when the chips are down and your life was on the line? Or would you crumble into a sobbing, pathetic mess like a triathlete who lost their left shoe in transition? On this episode, the guys speak with Joe Oldendorf - a true survivor. Joe went out for 20 mile long run on a remote trail in his home of Washington State and fell and broke his leg after 12 miles. His injury was so severe he was unable to walk. Fortunately, he had his phone. Unfortunately, there was no signal. So, he crawled for 12 hours to get within phone signal range so he could call 911. 12 hours! David speaks to Joe about his experience and what kept him going for that amount of time with his ankle detached from his tibia. (Urgh!) This is properly inspiring. Enjoy! And Nic Sampson is the man to do it.Nic is a stand up comedian with a one-person show dedicated to the utter craziness of what happened at the 1904 Marathon. Ep 209 - Connor Holt on coaching Camille Herron
Send us a textWhen you're the husband and coach for ultrarunning champ Camille Herron, you would be forgiven for thinking you're somewhat in the shadows. But Connor Holt is a serious athlete who was "kind of a big deal" during his college years and has a fascinating story to tell about how he started out, his experience of moving to the US and the collegiate system and meeting Camille. Talking to Jody and David, Connor also provides an insight into how he coaches Camille and why he's focused on her becoming the greatest of all time. Oh, and did we mention he's hilarious, too! This is a cracker of an episode - particularly the story about the very first time Camille met Connor. Enjoy! Ep 208 - Tim Shieff on his quest for ultimate health and performance
Send us a textTim Shieff is a freerunning champion, Ninja Warrior and former OCR competitor. But it's not necessarily his athletic achievements that always get the headlines. Tim has been on a journey through his life to find the optimal combination of nutrition and lifestyle to complement his activities - which has led him down some unconventional routes. Jody and David discuss this with him before moving onto the subject of veganism - which Tim vehemently rejects having been a prominent vegan for many years. There's actually VEGAN CUT in this episode at 1:33 if you want to skip straight to it or AVOID it completely. This is a long single episode because the guys had recording issues halfway through and Jody wasn't able to join the discussion about veganism. So there is a longer discussion after the interview. And it's not your usual bants. :) Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Join the conversation!
