Metamodernism in Art and Pop Culture

This is a conversation with Linda Ceriello and Greg Dember, the founders of Whatismetamodernism.com. We introduce the concept of metamodernism, discuss how postmodernism is still relevant (and whether it can be considered "dead"), and consider various artists and artworks in the context of a metamodern perspective. Why Sentient AI Will Be Benevolent

There's a strong case to be made that we don't need to fear AI becoming sentient. We make the case here. We also talk about what it would take for AI to convince us that it has achieved general intelligence. But to be on the safe side, before it’s too late, pick up a copy of Peter’s book, The Singularity Survival Guide: How to Get on the Good Side of Your Future Robot Overlords.Watch the latest episode on YouTube or Listen to the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, or Stitcher. Thanks for reading Team Futurism! Is the Substack "Nazi Problem" FAKE?

The Atlantic has written two articles claiming that Substack has a "Nazi problem." As avid Substack users, we call BS. Conveniently, the podcast Blocked & Reported recently did some digging on this story. That episode, linked below, is highly recommended for a more in-depth review of this topic. I our episode, we debunk the so-called Nazi problem and also discuss the general question of social media censorship vs. free speech.Sources:* The Atlantic: Substack Has a Nazi Problem* The Atlantic: Substack Has a Ticking Time Bomb* Blocked & Reported Episode 198* Jesse Singal's Substack Piece Reviewing the First Atlantic Article* Quote by Ibram Kendi we referenced This is a public episode. Futurist Fantasy: A Network State for Artists

What is a network state and is it possible to create one for the creative class? Will network states ever really exist or are they just going to be a bunch of scams like the ones we've come to expect from the crypto community? We discuss these questions and a few other topics in this episode. The topic "Network States for the Creative Class" was inspired by futurist Rachel Haywire, who writes the Substack Cultural Futurist and previously appeared as a guest on Team Futurism. Joe Rogan's Rage-Inducing Double Standard

In a widely-shared clip, Joe Rogan said that Joe Biden is "done" for saying something that, in fact, Donald Trump said. Basically, Rogan is saying that, if Biden said it, it’s proof of mental decline, but if Trump said it, he misspoke. This double standard is pretty rage-inducing for those of us who have spent a lot of time listening to Rogan and feel that he's better than this. We also discuss the responsibility podcasters have to not spread false information and how we attempt to do this ourselves. For example, we talk about how we cut 15 mins from a recent episode because, upon researching the topic after recording, it turned out we were wrong about almost everything. It happens!Watch the latest episode on YouTube or Listen to the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, or Stitcher. Thanks for reading Team Futurism! Elon Musk Is Turning Into Bill Gates

This episode is all about billionaires and philanthropy. Peter from Team Futurism argues that Elon Musk isn't turning into Howard Hughes (as many have speculated); instead, he's turning into Bill Gates. This view is based on an article he recently wrote for Merion West: “What Elon Musk and Bill Gates Have in Common.” Also...there's plenty to say about Jeff Bezos and why he might just be the optimal billionaire. In this respect, we respond to a tweet by Sai Medi, in which says of Bezos:This is the optimal billionaire. Not starting creepy NGOs, think tanks, vaccine funds or calling for open borders. No moralizing or poasting about politics. Just running his businesses while looking like a GTA character on his yatch with his girlfriend(s?) and living his best life.Watch the latest episode on YouTube or Listen to the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Google, or Stitcher. Thanks for reading Team Futurism! Cyberpunk Futures and Instant Communities

Peter and Devon discuss the idea that we already live in a cyberpunk future. Also we discuss the idea by FM-2030 that cities are museums that aren't worth modernizing.
