My Thoughts Monday #51, Jay DeMayo-A Rant About This "Mess" We Are In
“If you want to start to clean up the mess start at your own feet, clean up around yourself, and figure out what’s wrong and help everyone else clean up their mess too.”This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by GymAware, the leading tool to measure your athlete’s weight room performance. Learn more about “The Rolls Royce” of bar velocity monitoring here: https://kinetic.com.au/gymaware.htmlIn this edition of My Thoughts Monday I have a bit of a rant about the “mess the field of strength and conditioning is in.” There seems to be some discrepancy as to problems different people are seeing with what we do. I have (oddly) a view of it being more half full glass more than half empty and share why I feel that and ask how we can continue to improve. ENJOY THE CONTENT? This starts with him discussing his initial meeting and how they’re “building” what he has planed for the team. He then shares with us his relationship with the coaching staff and how that is driving him to be better for this squad, and how he started to implement his programming with the guys. This includes evaluations and testing, plus the progressions he used with his guys and how it’s impacted them physically and mentally. We answer some questions and answers on programming, culture building, speed work, building the overhead strength required for basketball, accommodating resistance with basketball players, sport specific exercises for basketball, and then end the discussion talking about how we see ourselves in the profession and our roles in (hopefully) bettering it for all the coaches now and coaches of the future.
