EP 47 | Should Biden Resign? With Guest Gerard LeConte

Send us a textMuch is being made of Joe Biden's abysmal debate performance against Donald Trump. Predictably, the news media, and many within the Democratic Party have sounded the alarm -- Should Joe Biden step down and allow someone else to take over? Does sticking with the incumbent ruin the Democrats' chances of winning the upcoming election against Donald Trump?Today, I'm talking with social media activist and political commentator, Gerard LeConte about this, and getting his honest take on whether the Democrats should abandon their current nominee. EP 44 | Deconstructing While Black with Garrison Hayes

Send us a textIn part 3 of this sweeping conversation with filmmaker, journalist and video essayist Garrison Hayes, we discuss the practical aspects of deconstructing while Black. What are the implications within your community, family and friends’ circle? How does being the child of a minister impact this process? Deconstruction from religious fundamentalism is not an easy process, but the added factor of parsing through racial dynamics infuses the experience with much more complexity and can often leave you with more questions than answers. Follow Garrison Hayes on all social media platforms at Garrison Hayes TikTokGarrison Hayes IGGarrison Hayes YouTubeSupport the showStay up to date with all things Dara Starr Tucker here:Dara Starr Tucker LinkTreeDara Starr Tucker TikTokDara Starr Tucker InstagramDara Starr Tucker YouTubeDara Starr Tucker Facebook

EP 43 | Why are Black People Still Christian? with Garrison Hayes

Send us a textThis is part two of a 3-part conversation with journalist, filmmaker and author Garrison Hayes on Black people and the Christian church. Garrison has made some interesting video essays on why Black people by and large continue to affiliate as "Christian." In this episode, Garrison and I get into a bit of our personal stories with faith, and we discuss how our exploration of the racial dynamics of our upbringings affected that relationship. EP 41 | Why Voting Rights are Under Attack with Qasim Rashid

Send us a textAttacks on voting rights are as old as the U.S. itself. Many people are not aware of the long standing history of attacks on this constitutionally protected right. Efforts to restrict voting access have not abated, and it's incumbent upon all of us to understand how these efforts have evolved over the years. All over the U.S., but particularly in the South and in swing states, there are constant attempts to block ballot access for those who are deemed by some as unworthy to participate in the democratic process.Today, I discuss that history with human rights lawyer, Qasim Rashid. Qasim is a tireless warrior for the underrepresented and the marginalized. His recent run for Congress in his native Chicago left him even more energized and focused on the issues that affect Black, brown, indigenous, LGBTQ and economically disadvantaged people. You can find him online everywhere at Qasim Rashid. Support the showStay up to date with all things Dara Starr Tucker here:Dara Starr Tucker LinkTreeDara Starr Tucker TikTokDara Starr Tucker InstagramDara Starr Tucker YouTubeDara Starr Tucker Facebook

Bonus Episode! Colors of the Wind

Send us a textBy now, most people know that the version of the Pocahontas story that was presented in the 1995 Disney film is mostly fiction. But the story behind the composition of the film’s most famous song is not as well known. It was important to lyricist Stephen Schwartz to pay homage to the history and legacy of the Powhatan people on which the film is based, but in true American fashion, the source material he drew from as the inspiration for the song’s brilliant lyrics paints a through line to America’s long history of exploitation and misrepresentation of Native stories and voices. EP 40 | Affirmative Action with Qasim Rashid

Send us a textFor the month of May, we’re delving into some deep-dive discussions with a couple of my favorite mutual creators — first up is human rights lawyer, Qasim Rashid. In this episode, we’re talking over the recent decision by the conservative Supreme Court to do away with race-based affirmative action. Since anti-affirmative action activist Edward Blum used a group of Asian students as his battering ram to take down affirmative action, Qasim and I speak to the issue of alleged anti-Asian discrimination at elite universities, and how this accusation led to a Supreme Court victory against affirmative action, when an earlier bid with a white student had failed to deliver the success Blum wanted. Join us next week for a round-up on the issue of voting rights with Qasim. Support the showStay up to date with all things Dara Starr Tucker here:Dara Starr Tucker LinkTreeDara Starr Tucker TikTokDara Starr Tucker InstagramDara Starr Tucker YouTubeDara Starr Tucker Facebook

EP 39 | Mental Health and the Black Community

Send us a textI’ve taken some time to look at disparities in health outcomes in the Black community vs. every other racial grouping in the U.S. The numbers are pretty grim. And unfortunately, when we take a look at the mental health profile for Black people as a whole in the U.S., it’s no different. Black people are statistically more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, PTSD, and they’re more likely to grapple with suicidal ideations. Yet we’re the group that is least likely to seek out help, and when we do, we’re more likely to receive poor quality care. In today’s podcast, I’m examining the reasons for these disparities, and looking at some ways in which we can begin to shift the needle on this troubling reality. Support the showStay up to date with all things Dara Starr Tucker here:Dara Starr Tucker LinkTreeDara Starr Tucker TikTokDara Starr Tucker InstagramDara Starr Tucker YouTubeDara Starr Tucker Facebook
