111: Catholicism – Relationship or Religion? (w/ Father Jeffrey Kirby)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Fr. Jeffrey Kirby to talk about Catholicism as a relationship between us and Jesus or as a religion. In his new book, Fr. Kirby clearly comes down on the side of religion and explains what *real* religion demands of us, and what rewards we're bound to receive as a result! It's a great conversation to help understand what drives Catholicism at its very deepest core: God's desire for us to become more like Him and live, ultimately, in relationship with us! 110: A Charismatic Pastor Hears God's Call to Catholicism (w/ Kenny Burchard)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Catholic convert Kenny Burchard. Kenny spent 33 years as an Charismatic, Evangelical Christian, more than twenty of those in full-time ministry, including planting and pastoring churches, before becoming Catholic in dramatic fashion! In this fantastic discussion we unpack the call Kenny heard to become Catholic, what drew him in, and what questions he had about the Bible, authority, and the nature of the Church even before he decided to attend his first Catholic Mass. This is a great conversation not only for those considering Catholicism but for those, like Kenny and his family, who honestly and earnestly are seeking after the leading of God's spirit – and are willing to follow no matter what it means, or where He leads. For more from Kenny Burchard visit his website. In this episode, Fr. Walshe draws on his experiences in pastoral care, his experience as a convert, and his deep love for the family to give us special insight in how to raise and keep kids Catholic – especially for us young, Catholic convert families. 108: The Eucharist in the Early Church (w/ Dr. Kenneth Howell)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Dr. Kenneth Howell to talk about the Eucharist in the Early Church. Dr. Howell has doctorates in Linguistics and Church History, was a Protestant pastor and seminary professor, and is a convert to the Catholic faith. In this episode he tells his fascinating conversion story and how the Eucharist played a key role. Then, we dig deep into the Early Church Fathers and the oldest documents next to the Bible to understand exactly how the very first Christians celebrated the "breaking of the bread" and worshiped together – and exactly what they believed about what we call the Eucharist. For more from Dr. Howell visit the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology and check out the incredible book we talk about in this episode, The Mystery of the Altar, an amazing collection of daily Eucharistic meditations. 107: What's the Deal with Vatican II? (w/ Dr. Richard DeClue)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Dr. Richard DeClue, Cardinal Henri de Lubac Fellow of Theology at the Word on Fire Institute to talk about the Second Vatican Council. What did Vatican II really say? What did it set out to accomplish? Did it ruin the Liturgy? The life of the Church? And how can we, as faithful Catholics, learn to evangelize in the true spirit of Vatican II. This is a great conversation which, we hope, really cuts through some of the confusion surrounding Vatican II and its fallout and brings some light and clarity to what the Catholic Church really teaches. 106: A Lutheran's Case for Roman Catholicism (w/ Dr. Robert Koons)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by philosopher and Catholic convert Dr. Robert Koons to talk about his incredible conversion from Lutheranism into the Catholic Church. When faced with the question of which Church was founded by Christ – and where he belonged – Dr. Koons, who traces his Lutheran history right back to the Reformation, applied philosophical principles to try and determine which Church he should belong to. After logically working out the arguments for both Lutheranism and Roman Catholicism, Dr. Koons made the dramatic decision to become a Catholic. Dr. Koons includes his arguments for the Lutheran and Catholic case in his fantastic book A Lutheran's Case for Roman Catholicism and shares them with us in this wonderful episode. 105: The Secret History of Transubstantiation (w/ William Albrecht and Father Christiaan Kappes)

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic Podcast, I'm joined by William Albrecht and Father Christiaan Kappes to discuss the history of transubstantiation in the Bible. As Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist – the elements of the Lord's Supper – actually becomes the body and blood of Jesus Christ during the Mass but is there evidence that this is true from the Bible and the Early Church? William and Fr. Kappes rejoin me to discuss their incredible new book and unpack a wealth of historical and biblical evidence which shows that transubstantiation makes complete sense in the way that God does, and always has, interacted with His creation. We had such a great time with this conversation – you're going to learn a ton!Pick up a copy of William and Father Kappes' new book The Secret History of Transubstantiation: Pulling Back the Veil on the Eucharist today.William Albrecht is a Catholic convert, a seasoned apologist, debater, and one of the hosts of the Reason and Theology show.
