11/11/22 David Stockman on the Economy and the Misplaced Fear of China

Scott is joined by David Stockman to talk about the economic issues facing the world today. To start, Stockman explains where the American economy stands today. He argues that the crash of 2020 represents the next stage in a 50-year evolution of the boom-bust cycle. They also touch on the labor markets, which Stockman argues are not doing as well as the news would have you believe. Next they turn to China, where Stockman says an accelerating slide back towards central planning that’s all built on an absurd level of debt should dispel the idea we’re headed for a world run by Beijing. He also debunks the myth that China has been waging an effective economic war on the U.S. since the 1990s. Instead, Stockman says America’s economic troubles are all the Fed’s fault. Lastly, Scott and Stockman take a step back and look at how the dollar is faring on a global scale. Discussed on the show:David Stockman’s Contra CornerDavid Stockman is the ultimate Washington insider turned iconoclast. He began his career in Washington as a young man and quickly rose through the ranks of the Republican Party to become the Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Ronald Reagan. After leaving the White House, Stockman had a 20-year career on Wall Street. 11/4/22 Douglas Macgregor on the Lost Opportunities to Leave Ukraine Better Off

This week on Antiwar Radio, Scott talks with retired Colonel Douglas Macgregor about the war in Ukraine. From the beginning, Macgregor has been very critical of the Biden Administration’s myopic insistence on escalation. Now, it appears that a divide has broken out within Washington about how much further the U.S. and NATO can go. Scott and Macgregor discuss this evolving dynamic and reflect on all the missed chances for peace that would have left Ukraine with more territory and fewer lives lost. Now, with what appears to be a massive Russian offensive in the works, Macgregor says the west must put an end to the war as soon as possible. Discussed on the show: “Playing at War in Ukraine” (The American Conservative) “It’s Time to Bring Russia and Ukraine to the Negotiating Table” (New York Times) “Will Biden Gamble on a Ukraine Coalition?” (The American Conservative) Scott’s interview with Lyle Goldstein Why is Ukraine the West's Fault? 11/4/22 Ted Snider: The US Admits Iran Isn’t Building a Nuclear Bomb

Scott brings Ted Snider back on to discuss a major story that nobody but Antiwar.com appears to be covering. The Biden Administration recently declassified its Nuclear Posture Review where it is admitted that Iran is not working towards a nuclear bomb. After a quick discussion about how U.S. nuclear strike policy has evolved since the Cold War, Scott and Snider dig into this bombshell of a story. They reflect back on all the revelations that made it clear the Iran nuclear weapons program was a hoax. Now, this official acknowledgment really drives home how ridiculous all this chest-thumping has been. Scott and Snider finish with a quick discussion about how the U.S. has created and prolonged the nuclear tension with North Korea. Discussed on the show: “US Admits Iran Is Not Building a Nuclear Bomb” (Antiwar.com) The Threat by Andrew Cockburn Manufactured Crisis by Gareth Porter Losing an Enemy by Trita Parsi “When the Ayatollah Said No to Nukes” (Foreign Policy) “Iran, Islam, and Banning the Bomb” (Antiwar.com) Ted Snider has a graduate degree in philosophy and writes on analyzing patterns in U.S. foreign policy and history.
