Until Unity with Francis Chan

Church Unity is Not Optional. Many Christians who want unity don’t value theology or holiness. Yet, God commands all three. There must be a way to end the divisions that grieve the Holy Spirit without sacrificing truth or embracing sin. As the world grows more divided, Christians must unite—in love for the Lord and one another—as a winsome witness to the world through our oneness in Christ. Francis Chan joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss his new book Until Unity and why Christian unity is not optional. We hope that this conversation will inspire Spirit-filled people from all denominations to fight for unity with humility, gentleness and love in obedience to our Lord’s High Priestly Prayer. “…that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” To receive your copy of Until Unity by Francis Chan for your partnering gift please click here. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2105hup/Topics discussed include: Is Christian unity possible? Christian Persecution: Hungary Has a Plan to Help with Tristan Azbej

Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world. Tragically, anti-Christian animus in the West has largely led to ignorance of the persecution of Christians today and the result has been a human rights travesty of historic proportions. Hank often says that the problem of Christian persecution in the Middle East is squarely in the blind spot of the West. When it comes to addressing the issue of Christian persecution, Hungary is a small country making a big difference. Through various government sponsored initiatives, such as the Hungary Helps program, Hungary is aiding persecuted Christians and other persecuted religious groups around the globe, setting an example that it hopes other countries will be inspired to emulate. Hank is joined by Tristan Azbej, Hungary’s State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians, to discuss this critical issue and help bring Christian persecution out of the blind spot of the West.Topics discussed include: Growing up in an anti-Christian communist dictatorship has made the issue of Christian persecution so important to Tristan Azbej (5:00); Tristan Azbej on his title as the State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians (8:40); the history of Hungary as a Christian nation (11:40); how Hungary is able to maintain a Christian identity in an increasingly secular European Union (16:15); why it is critical to protect the roots of our Christian heritage (21:45); the necessity for Christian unity in the face of persecution (27:25); how the Hungary Helps program has provided humanitarian aid to over 100,000 people since 2017 (32:50); how Hungary is setting an example for how to be a modern Christian democracy (39:15); illegal immigration and the Hungarian approach to immigration policies (44:30); countering the narrative that the Hungarian immigration policies are racist (49:20); the rise of Christian persecution in Africa (52:30); the difference between peaceful Muslims and violent Islamic ideology (58:10); extremist liberalism as a form of totalitarianism growing in the West today (1:03:25); Red Wednesday, an initiative of Aid for the Church in Need to commemorate the blood of Christian martyrs (1:09:20); Hungary isn’t focused on merely helping persecuted Christians, but all religious persecution (1:10:45); why are there narratives creating a sense of Christian guilt for some Western Christians when Christian charity is at the forefront of aid around the world? (1:14:30); Tristan Azbej on his recent visit with Pope Francis and persecuted Christians in Iraq (1:19:20); the need for Christians from different traditions to work towards Christian unity in the face of growing oppression (1:24:20); how Tristan Azbej become the State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians (1:27:00)."For more information on the work of Tristan Azbej and the Hungary Helps program visit https://hungaryhelps.gov.hu/en/."For further resources on persecution we recommend the following:The Global War on Christians: Dispatches from the Front Lines of Anti-Christian Persecution Paperback by John L. Robert Spencer was a devoted Roman Catholic for more than 30 years until the issue of the infallibility of the Pope led him to investigate the controversial Roman Catholic dogma—an investigation that ultimately led Spencer to write the forthcoming book The Pope and the Church. Spencer joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss the issue of Papal infallibility and the problems it presents to the global Christian community. A Christian Response to Homophobia and Racism with Rev. Matt Kennedy

The world around us is consumed by issues of identity—the church included. Responding to these issues from an orthodox Christian perspective is critical to the future of the church, however, it isn’t always easy for Christians to follow their convictions when claims of homophobia, racism and the like are made against those holding to traditional norms of morality. How should we respond to claims that Christians are homophobic, racist and bigoted? Reverend Matt Kennedy has recently written on these issues in the Christian Research Journal (https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/) (All Have Not Sinned in Every Way: Racism and Original Sin (https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/out-of-the-ashes-at-ground-zero/) and Why Do Parents of Gay Children Change Their Theological Minds? (https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/if-your-child-were-gay-would-you-change-your-view-on-homosexuality/ ) and joins Hank Hanegraaff to provide Christians with encouragement to stand on the solid ground of Christian conviction as opposed to the sinking sands of cultural conformity.Topics discussed include: What made Matt Kennedy become a Christian? Rewriting History: Exposing the Fake History That Turned a Generation against America with Mary Grabar

In a world filled with fake news—Research — the ‘R’ in CRI — is more critical than ever. While researching Columbus Day, Hank Hanegraaff read countless articles conveying Christopher Columbus as one of history’s greatest villains—far from the hero of history we learned about as students. Then Hank realized something. Every article using the same source — Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States. The Demon in Democracy: Totalitarian Temptations in Free Societies with Ryszard Legutko

Professor Ryszard Legutko lived and suffered under communism for decades and fought in the Polish anti-communist movement to abolish it. Having now live for over two decades under a liberal democracy, Legutko has discovered that liberal democracy and communism have more in common than one might think. Professor Legutko joins Hank Hanegraaff to discuss The Demon in Democracy, as Legutko explains how liberal democracy has slowly tilted toward the same goals as communism, albeit without Soviet-style brutality. Having escaped the horrors of communism Legutko understands just how critical it is for Western Christians to understand the threats that lie buried within the systems we’ve long considered safe and learn to recognize The Demon in Democracy. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2101hup/Topics discussed include: What are the similarities between communism and liberal democracy? Totalitarianism in America? with Rod Dreher

For years, émigrés from the former Soviet Union have been telling Rod Dreher they see telltale signs of “soft” totalitarianism cropping up in America. Identity politics are intruding into every aspect of life. Progressives are marginalizing conservative Christians. Technology and consumerism are creating the possibility of a corporate surveillance state. And the pandemic has left our country especially vulnerable to demagogic manipulation. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn famously said that one of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming totalitarianism can’t happen at home. Rod Dreher joins Hank Hanegraaff to warn American Christians of approaching dangers and equip them for the long resistance. Topics discussed include: How an essay by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn inspired the title for Rod Dreher’s new book Live Not by Lies (6:15); stories of émigrés from the former Soviet Union telling Rod Dreher that they see reminders of communism cropping up in America (7:55); the dangers of cancel culture and people being afraid to speak freely (11:05); the difference between hard totalitarianism and soft totalitarianism (13:50); are we living in a world more similar to Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World or George Orwell’s 1984? The Price of Panic: How the Tyranny of Experts Turned a Pandemic into a Catastrophe with Jay Richards

For the first time in history, the world shut itself down — by choice — fearful of a virus that wasn’t well understood. The government ordered the closure of countless businesses — many never to return. Schools sent students home to be taught in front of a computer. Churches canceled worship services. “Social distancing” went from a non-word to a moral obligation overnight. We need to know what happened—to keep it from ever happening again.
