#161 Career Change Is Not Supposed To Be Easy
In today’s episode of the ‘Career Change Maker’ podcast, I talk about the fact that Career Change is not supposed to be easy.I am interested to talk about this topic because oftentimes when we want to move towards our goal, we can be prevented from moving forward as it feels too hard.Episode Highlights:· 01:44 – I want to share with you the backstory because I think it would be useful for us and also inspiring.· 03:55 - Lots of people have writing books on their bucket list. They say one day, I'd love to write a book.· 06:10 - The first time that you do anything, it's going to be hard.· 08:35 – It’s you who got to decide that am I going to stay where I am or am I going to make a decision that I'm going to try and do something different.· 10:25 – Recognize that when you do hard things, you get good at doing hard things. So, you can do harder things and achieve bigger goals and go for what it is that you want.· 12:50 - The program is designed to not just make a decision but it lets walk you through a step-by-step process so that when you make your decision, you know that it's the right one.· 16:45 – There are ways that you can position yourself and make sure that you know how to negotiate correctly so that doesn't have to be the case for you.· 18:05 - I created the ‘Career Change Maker’ program and a Career Change Making Method because it pains me to see so many amazing, and talented women fall into the category of coasting female professionals.· 19:20 - If you like the sound of becoming a Career Change Maker then I invite you to make an application for this program. What you will learn:The first time you do anything, it is always difficult. But the more and more you do that thing, the easier it gets, because you stretch your ability, you adapt, and then you grow. So, it’s the same principle when it comes to making a move in your career. On your first day at work, you feel nervous but gradually you adapt to the environment.Taking steps now, whatever it is you're considering is going to impact what happens later on down the line for you and your career. The decisions that you make and the opportunities that are open to you, if you are thinking about taking the plunge or making a move transitioning right now, then do it. If you don't know what to do, let's figure out what you should be doing. Let's not just stop there, and just say, well, it's just too hard to figure out because the reality of it is you're going to have to revisit that conversation. If you're just parking it all the time and saying I'll come back to it, you're not making any progress.‘Career Change Maker’ podcast host, Janine Esbrand, is a Career Strategist, an Executive Coach, and the Creator of the Career Change Making Method.Other episodes you may also enjoy:Episode 121: You Don't Need To Retrain To Find Job SatisfactionEpisode 124: Making A Big Career TransitionTHIS EPISODE IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMThis episode was brought to you by my signature program, the Career Change Maker Program. If you are looking for support with changing career direction, book a suitability call >> Career Clarity Call.Send us a text

# 160 Who You Spend Time With Will Impact How Quickly You Make A Career Change
In today’s episode of the ‘Career Change Maker’ podcast, I talk about why who you spend time with is going to impact how quickly you're able to make your next career change. The reason why I want to focus on this is that we need to be thinking about what is holding us back from moving towards the career change and career development that we ultimately want to make. Episode Highlights:· 01:30 – I start by sharing a story of a client that I worked with.· 03:15 - The thing that made the biggest difference was a community so my client was able to surround herself with a group of people who had a completely different perspective to those that she would normally spend time with.· 06:20 – I encourage you to look beyond just adding people into your network and instead focus on what the point is of expanding your network.· 08:15 - Being around friends, family members, and people who have seen you in your current role, with your current status, can hold you back as that's how they will see you - this will make it difficult for you to view yourself in another way.· 10:05 - If you don't have the right people in your network then you should start thinking about the strategies and actions you can take to fill those gaps.· 11:55 – I created this program and the Career Change Maker Method because it pains me to see so many amazing, brilliant women not reaching their career potential. What you will learn: Successful people and those in leadership positions are going to have mentors and coaches. They are going to have people who are guiding them or who are supporting them, and helping them to get to where it is that they want to get to. These types of people can act as a guide for you too on your career journey. Expanding your network is about building relationships. Building relationships will help open doors and opportunities for you. They're going to introduce you to the right people. It also helps to elevate or shift your mindset around what is possible for you, and that is even more powerful. If you're surrounding yourself with people who are of a positive mindset, who have a growth mindset then you too are going to have that but if you are surrounded by people who don't, then it's hard for you to push through and maintain that. So I encourage you to start thinking strategically about your network.‘Career Change Maker’ podcast host, Janine Esbrand, is a Career Strategist, an Executive Coach and the Creator of Career Change Making Method.Other episodes you may also enjoy:Episode120: Has The Fear of Success Been Holding You Back?Episode 121 : You Don't Need To Retrain To Find Job SatisfactionTHIS EPISODE IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMThis episode was brought to you by my signature program, the Career Change Maker Program. If you are looking for support with changing career direction, book a suitability call >> Career Clarity Call.Send us a text

#159 - How To Position Yourself For Better Career Opportunities in 2022
In today’s episode I discuss how to position yourself for better career opportunities in 2022. This is a time of the year when everybody is talking about New Year's resolutions and forming new habits. I also share how you can be approaching things differently when it comes to your career and career development. Episode Highlights:· 01:40 – I share that I want to talk about how you can do things differently in a sustainable way.· 04:30 - The reason why so many people fail when it comes to setting new year resolutions.· 07:30 – I want you to be thinking like an athlete as you approach your career this year.· 09:40 – I suggest that you as an individual get to be the CEO of your career and need to do things on a day-to-day basis.· 10:40 - The second thing that you need to be doing this year, so you can position yourself correctly is be strategic.· 12:25 - If you're looking for strategy, and you're not sure exactly what you need to be doing, it’s possible for you to get support with that.· 13:00 - The last thing you need to ask yourself is: do I have the resources that I need to meet the goal?· 15:10 – You need to identify what resource gap is there, and what you need to be paying attention to so that you’re able to step up to what it is that you want to do.· 16:15 - If you're surrounded by people who are of a similar mindset, and who want the same things that you want, it's so much easier for you to just be moving, be amongst people where there is momentum, and there is movement.· 17:30 – I share how I’m planning to bring the community over to LinkedIn. This is going to be a think tank of different professionals who are looking at changing, advancing, and developing in their careers.· 18:35 – I reiterate that to be successful, have your plan, be strategic, and arrange the essential resources; focussing on these three things is going to help you to get to where you want to go this year. What you will learn:1. Research has shown that only 8% of people who set New Year’s resolutions will follow through and be successful on those - They have great intentions at the start but by February or March, it goes a bit left, and then they don't follow through. So there are three things that I talk about, that you should be focused on throughout the year when it comes to your career development.2. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail - Because if you don't have a plan, you cannot make it to reality. So having a plan, taking the time to map out, and putting the plan in place so that you can be successful is important.3. A bonus thing you can do - Surround yourself with people who are doing what it is you want to do, or who are on the journey. Getting into a community is super important as that is going to accelerate your results. ‘Career Change Maker’ podcast host, Janine Esbrand, is a Career Strategist, an Executive Coach and the Creator of Career Change Making Method.THIS EPISODE IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMThis episode was brought to you by my signature program, the Career Change Maker Program. If you are looking for support with changing career direction, book a suitability call >> Career Clarity Call<Send us a text

# 158 - Changing Careers And Challenging The Status Quo With Legal Edge
In today’s episode I talk with two awesome guests - Donna Sewell and Helen Goldberg. They both share their journeys, what led them to leave the traditional legal route and start the business which is called LegalEdge. They share what they are doing now to facilitate flexible working and opportunities for lawyers to work in a way that's different, and impactful. What you will learn:It takes time to create the ideal business modelThere's no such thing as failure - you either win or you learnMaking sure your team is happy will lead to faster growth as a companyDonna shares, they set up LegalEdge to help businesses who needed an in-house lawyer on a flexible basis and didn’t want to hire. Donna was working In-house for a number of tech companies over several years. During that period of time began to think about a business model to facilitate flexible working and opportunities for lawyers. After being terminated during maternity leave, Helen was keen to do something different so joined Donna to help her grow the business. I asked Donna and Helen "how challenging was it to develop a model that wasn't the traditional law firm model that everybody was following?"Donna highlights "it was quite challenging as it took some time to think through the model and how it would work and to not be just doing things the same way as every law firm was doing at the time. It got easier as time passed on and it feels like less of an uphill battle in terms of the education process."LegalEdge was a fully functioning remote company that championed flexible working way before Covid and is continuing to lead the way with their people first culture. Donna says they have been committed to finding different ways of doing things and making people aware that if they're not happy, they can do something about...13 years later and they are still making an impact and enjoying it. # 157 - Wanting More For Your Career Is Not A Bad Thing
In this episode I discuss why wanting more for your career is not a bad thing. I also share the story of a client I spoke to recently who was experiencing self-doubt and guilt about going for a role in a different department at the same company. Perhaps you worry about what other people might think about your career choices. Whether it’s a boss, colleague, a friend or family member, other people’s opinions can easily impact the decisions we make and inadvertently cause us to choose a different path. When you are thinking about your career, I want you to remember it’s a two way thing. You are there for a reason, that’s why they hired you. What’s your reason for applying/ working there? This is often why your professional development plan comes up at interview stage. If you are ambitious it’s not likely that you will stay in that role forever. Rather than being sad or thinking bad of you, a good line manager will support you in your decision to move department. If your company knows that you’re brilliant and you can add value, they would much prefer an internal move, rather than a move to another organisation. It’s likely that they will respect the fact that you are making efforts to better your personal and professional development. So, what makes sense for you in terms of your next role? The time you spend at work is a lot of time. So if you spot an opportunity, you need to check in and make sure you aren’t making assumptions about the reaction you will receive. I want to encourage you to focus less on what other people think about a decision and focus more on whether this is the right decision to be making for you. What you will learn:How to recognise the self-imposed barriers of career changeWhy investing the time and energy into making a move is worth itHow to put your career goals front and centre, despite what other people think Other episodes you may enjoy:Episode 156: The Real Cost Of Settling In Your CareerEpisode 139: Stop Counting Yourself Out Of OpportunitiesTHIS EPISODE IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMThis episode was brought to you by my signature program, the Career Change Maker Program. # 156 - The Real Cost Of Settling In Your Career
In this episode I discuss the cost of settling in your career. A recent Gallup survey revealed that 85% of people weren’t happy in their jobs. 85%! Does this surprise you? Perhaps you are one of the 85%. Have you been venting how you feel frustrated and undervalued during discussions with the people close to you but not taking action? I want you to recognise that this is something that you can change. The fear of failure when it comes to making a career move is all too real, but essentially, you have two outcomes. You either win, or you learn. Both of these outcomes will strengthen your ability, but it takes overcoming fear to achieve them. You can’t separate the impact that work has on your personal life, so it’s important for you to be intentional about your career. I want to help you bid farewell to the days of having the same conversations time and time again. What you will learn: • The personal, emotional and financial cost of settling in your career• How you are viewing fear• How to push past these fear hurdles and experience what’s on the other side Other episodes you may enjoy:Episode155: How To Be More Confident In Your Career Change DecisionsEpisode 140: Why You Deserve A Better Role So That You Can Stop Feeling Unhappy In Your WorkTHIS EPISODE IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMThis episode was brought to you by my signature program, the Career Change Maker Program. # 155 - How To Be More Confident In Your Career Change Decisions
In this episode I discuss how to be more confident in your career change decisions. All too often I see people waiting… and waiting… until they have a clear idea about what it is they want to do before they take any action. How can you approach this in a way that’s going to keep you moving forward, rather than staying stuck? I want you to have confidence! If you've been trying to figure out your next move for ages, going around in circles, asking yourself, friends or colleagues what you should do next; the missing piece of the puzzle is within grasp. I want to encourage you to ask, ‘What do I need in order for me to feel happy and fulfilled in a role?’, rather than ‘What is the next role that I'm going to go for?’. You made some decisions to get to the place you are now. Just because you are no longer happy with the results of your decisions, does not mean that you will make the same mistake again. You’ve changed as a person and it’s time to take action. Trust your ability. What you will learn: • The importance of defining your needs when it comes to your next role• Where confidence comes from• How to use your confidence to make informed decisions and further your career Other episodes you may enjoy:Episode 153 Introducing The Career Change Maker MethodEpisode 149: You Have What It Takes To Make A Career ChangeTHIS EPISODE IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMThis episode was brought to you by my signature program, the Career Change Maker Program. # 154 - Stop Waiting For The Right Time...Create It
In this episode, I discuss why you shouldn’t wait until it’s too late to make a career move.I want you to have choices…I see too many people waiting for the ‘right time’ to make a career move. And let me share with you – there is never a right time… only now.If this is you, I would imagine it will take something big to be the catalyst for your change, perhaps redundancy or restructuring within your organisation. The problem is, if you wait until then, there will be such a sense of urgency to you making a move that you’re not going to have the head space to consider what is going to be the best move for you. You’ll end up looking for a role similar to what you’re doing already, something that’s easy for you to transition into, because you just need to find something. The decision you make will be very different from the decision you’d make if you felt like you had time and options. If you’re in a role now and you know you’re not happy, I encourage you to start taking action now. There’s a whole process that needs to happen to take control of your career. It takes time.I want to encourage you, if you’ve been putting things off, and you’re repeating on a daily basis ‘there must be more’, it’s probably time to spend full attention to what it is you want to be doing next.It doesn’t always need to be a huge leap, it can be a slight shift, but you won’t realise what it is until you give it the time. You do have control over this, so take control. What you will learn:How two of my clients took control of their careers before they needed toWhy it’s important to take action while you have choicesWhy making a career move takes timeOther episodes you may enjoy:Episode 142: The One Thing You Need To Make A Successful Career ChangeEpisode: 132 The Six Letter Word That Is Stopping You From Making Your Next Career MoveTHIS EPISODE IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMThis episode was brought to you by my signature program, the Career Change Maker Program. # 153 - Introducing The Career Change Maker Method
In this episode, we go behind the scenes and I introduce you to the Career Change Maker Method. The Career Change Maker Method is the methodology that underpins the work I do within my signature program and with my clients on a one-to-one basis. When you can produce consistency of results, it is incredibly powerful and the processes and systems I have created within this method produce exactly this.In this episode, I discuss the four phases to the unique framework that underpins my coaching, training and speaking services:1. Self-leadershipThis is often over-looked, but I’ve discovered that is so important to delve into understanding yourself more so that you can make career decisions that are in alignment with who you are and what you want. We also look at the mindset shifts that need to happen for you to make a change.2. Unapologetic visionAfter completing the work on self-leadership, you can then move onto discovering what kind of work would allow you to feel most fulfilled. I encourage you to have huge, audacious goals and visions – to not be held back by what you think is possible or impossible. Once you know where you want to go, we can then implement the next action steps you need to take.3. Transition positioningHow are you going to transition from where you are now to making that vision a reality? It comes down to positioning and how you position your existing experience so you can leverage it – to put yourself in the right rooms, conversations and platforms so you are able to attract attention for what it is you want to be known for.4. Rise and ShineI want you to rise and shine in the area you’ve identified as where you want to be. You will learn how to show up, how you need to present yourself and interview to really shine and attract the opportunities you really want to, as well as negotiate the offers and make the money you really want to earn. When you learn to lean into the value that you bring and how to articulate this, it makes it easy to attract the right opportunities. What you will learn:The different stages of my program and the importance of eachThe inspiring results of my clients who have completed my Career Change Maker ProgramAnswers to your questions regarding my Career Change Maker ProgramOther episodes you may enjoy:Episode 149: You Have What It Takes To Make A Career ChangeEpisode 143: Embarking On A Career Change After Decades In Your Career With Maddy Lee-SmithTHIS EPISODE IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAREER CHANGE MAKER PROGRAMThis episode was brought to you by my signature program, the Career Change Maker Program.
