The Power of Words

Have you experienced the lasting impact that words can have on your life? In Lead Pastor Erwin McManus’ new message “The Power of Words,” he explores the unique power of language and how God harnesses it to create life. From the very beginning in Genesis chapter 1, God uses language to create light and life out of nothing. He creates, he blesses, and proceeds to call His creation, “Good.” Here, we learn that God always creates what is good, beautiful, and true. In contrast, the voice of darkness enters the script in Genesis chapter 3. The voice of doubt is introduced as a snake speaks to Eve and contradicts God’s voice. This voice always tears man, God, and creation apart from one another. Pastor Erwin reminds us that our soul is in the wrong conversation when we’re not in a conversation with the one who created us. Pastor Erwin encourages us that even if we feel as though we’ve lost touch with the frequency of God’s voice, we can always tune back into it when we decide to listen for it again. Our lives are either shaped by the words of darkness or the words of light and God is longing to illuminate our lives with light when we give his voice precedence. If you've lost touch with God's voice in your life, this message will help you reconnect with the only voice that can shape your life into something beautiful, good, and true.

Eternal

In Lead Pastor Erwin McManus’ captivating Easter message “Eternal,” he brings us into the monumental moment when time and eternity collided as Jesus died on the cross. In Matthew chapter 27, a wide array of astonishing events come to pass at the moment of Jesus’ death. Not only did the veil in the Jewish temple tear in two, but bodies were raised from their graves and began to walk around the city. Moments before Jesus died, he cried out to God,  “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Pastor Erwin highlights that God wanted us to know that Jesus could relate to the darkest moments in our story because of what he endured on the cross. But what do we make of the supernatural occurrences after Jesus’ death? Pastor Erwin compares the moment of Jesus' death to a black hole colliding with a white hole; the totality of light consuming all darkness. The veil being torn represented the ripping apart of the separation between God and man. The walking dead show us that our eternal bodies are only graves waiting to be resurrected to life through Jesus. If you’ve wrestled with feeling empty or searching for an answer to your soul’s longing for life, this message will invite you to surrender your life to Jesus - the only one who can raise you out of the darkness.

The Living | From The Archives

For Easter Sunday, Lead Pastor Erwin McManus brings us into a powerful conversation on the life of Jesus and his desire to wrestle us free from the things that are stealing life from us.In Luke chapter 24 we learn that two women ran to Jesus' tomb after he had resurrected, searching for his body. They were met by two men that were beaming with light. The women were asked "Why are you looking for the living among the dead?" Pastor Erwin emphasizes that cemeteries are the most predictable place in the world. But Jesus was an outlier to monotonous this narrative. Many of us ask God for a lot of things while neglecting to ask for the one thing that could change everything. We ask for a house, a car, or a spouse. Meanwhile, Jesus desires to give us life from the inside-out, not just decorations for our bodies. Similar to the angels asking the two women at Jesus' tomb what they were looking for, Jesus asks us the same question.Pastor Erwin shares that Jesus is consistently working to bring us to a crossroads in our lives-choosing between life or death. Often, we think we either have to choose between life or death and then add God to the equation. But Pastor Erwin states that the words "life" and "God" are synonymous, just like the word death is synonymous with a life absent of God's presence. Death looks like jealousy, greed, and violence ruling our lives. Life is the existence God wants us to experience when we live deeply connected to Jesus. If you've been living a life that is decorated with things but absent of true life, this message will empower you to leave death behind and take Jesus at his word as he offers you abundant life. Jot something down

Desert Rose | From The Archives

In this beautiful Good Friday message, Pastor Erwin McManus brings a fresh perspective to the power of the cross and the impact it can have on our personal lives. In John chapter 19, the story of Jesus' crucifixion and death is told from the perspective of John-one of Jesus' followers. Similar to Jesus hanging on the cross, Pastor Erwin points out that he is standing in a desert-a place of isolation, danger, and desperation. He says that often when we find ourselves in times of desperation and isolation, peace is the last emotion we decide to access. But John shows us that after Jesus declared "It is finished," he rested his head against the cross. For many of us, the past few years have stolen our peace. We have felt as though we are stuck in a hypothetical desert. But if Jesus could find rest in the midst of the darkest circumstances, surely he can give us the same peace wherever we find ourselves. And though it is tempting to perceive ourselves as victims, Jesus exemplifies what it means to live as a victor-even as he gave up his own life for us.Though Jesus only lived for 33 years, Pastor Erwin highlights that he lived out the fullness of his purpose in those short years. Just as he lived with intention even on the cross, Jesus invites us to live with the same intention. As Pastor Erwin looks over the sunset, he reflects on how a sunset can often look identical to a sunrise. In the same way, we may feel as though we are at the end of our story because of the dire circumstances around us. But just as the cross looked like the end, Jesus showed us that it was the start to a bright future. If you are desperate for peace in the midst of your circumstances, this message will give you the courage you need to reach out for Jesus, follow his lead by giving your life up to him, and choosing victory instead of victimhood.

Questioning Jesus

In this week's challenging new message from Lead Pastor Erwin McManus, we are invited to embark on a journey through the most important questions we must ask ourselves. Pastor Erwin points out that though we may have many questions for Jesus, the questions that will ultimately bring us transformation are the ones that Jesus asks us. Throughout the scriptures, Jesus’s question asks questions that cut to the core of people. In Matthew 16, he asks Peter, "Who do you say that I am?" Pastor Erwin explains that the choices we make in every arena of our lives reflects who we really believe Jesus to be. In John 1 and Luke 18, Jesus asks his followers, "What do you want?" and, "What do you want me to do for you?" Though we may assume that God should tell us what to want, Jesus turns the question on us and challenges us to be honest with God about what we want Him to do in and through our lives. Lastly, Jesus asks his followers in John 6: “Will you leave me, also?" Pastor Erwin reveals that when we first give our lives to Jesus, we are usually surrendering our most broken parts to him. But the true test of our commitment comes when God asks for all of us - not just pieces of us. If you've been on a journey of questioning Jesus, this message will help you navigate the most essential questions that Jesus asks of you. These questions will deepen your connection with Jesus and give essential direction to your life.
