Woody Adjacent - Craig Sheffer, Sheryl Lee & Terence Stamp - Bliss (1997)
On this recording Don goes diggin in the crates to pick up a lesser known erotic drama film that raised many a eyebrow for it supposed overt sexual nature but there seems to be alot more under the surface with this movie and it's story
In BLISS (1997) Maria (Sheryl Lee) struggling with mental issues and marital disharmony, she seeks help from Baltazar (Terence Stamp), a charismatic sex therapist whose healing methods delve beyond traditional psychoanalysis.
In their sessions, Maria uncovers a repressed traumatic memory from her childhood, affecting her ability to experience sexual pleasure. Meanwhile, Maria's husband Joseph (Craig Sheffer), is initially skeptical of Baltazar's unconventional approach, becomes drawn into the exploration of their intimacy.
As Maria embarks on a journey of self-discovery through tantric practices and challenging sexual experiences, Joseph grapples with his own anxieties and evolving definition of intimacy. Their intertwined quests force them to confront personal demons, reevaluate their relationship, and question the societal norms surrounding sex and love.

Woody Adjacent - Alan Alda, Ellen Burstyn - Same Time, Next Year (1978)
We are back just before the end of the month to deliver another great Adjacent conversation on a golden oldie hollywood has tried to reboot a few times but can never quite get another adaptation off the ground, so until then we will talk about the current original...
In Same Time Next Year (1978) which is set in 1951, two seemingly happily married individuals, Doris (Ellen Burstyn), a housewife from Oakland, and George (Alan Alda), an accountant from New Jersey, meet by chance at a California inn. A passionate connection sparks, leading them to make an unusual agreement: to meet at the same inn every year for a single night, away from their families and lives.
As the years pass, the film jumps forward, showcasing these annual encounters. We witness Doris and George navigate life's ups and downs – births, deaths, marital challenges, and personal growth – while their own relationship deepens beyond the initial physical attraction.
Through their candid conversations and shared experiences, they develop a unique intimacy that transcends their respective marriages. They offer each other support, understanding, and a space to be themselves outside their societal roles.

Ep 67: 2020 - Rifkins Festival *Discussion*
On this recording we are back to actually talk about a new Woody Allen movie release... yeah.. he's still at it :P - i know right haha
Also, we say a sincere farewell to our original co-host who start out with us on this journey: Simon Rad :(
Simon, who has decided (in a conversation off mic) to step away from podcasting in general will be missed for his Zany energy and pretty buck-wild moments - he will always be appreciated.. and may even pop in sometime in future...
but alas.. our good friend James Daniel Walsh now steps in full time to take on the role as co-host completely on this retrospective so the train will still chuggle along
Simon will be missed.. just a little bit (the damn bastard lol)
Anyhow.. lets get on with the show and talk about Woodys most latest release.. A film many are not finding to be in the higher tier of Woodys creative abilities but regardless we will, as always, give our honest opinion
In Rifkin's Festival (2020) Cynical film critic Mort Rifkin (Wallace Shawn) tags along with his glamorous PR wife Sue (Gina Gershon) to the San Sebastian Film Festival. Mort's insecurities bloom as Sue flirts with a pretentious French director, while he finds solace in quirky local doctor Joana (Elena Anaya). Dream sequences echoing classic cinema transport Mort to fantastical scenarios, blurring the lines between reality and art. Facing doubts about love, mortality, and artistic legacy, Mort navigates the festival's whirlwind through comedic wit and wistful longing, searching for meaning in the fleeting spectacle of life and movies.

Woody Adjacent - Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy - Before Sunrise, Before Sunset (1995 & 2004)
We are back today to talk about our first movie series discussion for our Woody Allen Adjacent project!
This is a much beloved movie series that explores so many great aspects, mostly just through using dialogue - which may fly in the face of often advised filmaking - but this director had a vision
...and yes, rather strangely, we are leaving out the third piece of this puzzle for another time - but regardless, for now we just wanted to throw our hats off to this director and speak about the following two films
1995's - Before Sunrise and 2004's - Before Sunset
We could have honestly spoke about these movies even more (specifically the second one) but alas we must press on..
Anyhow.....
In the stories of Before Sunrise / Sunset: Jesse, a charming American traveler, meets Céline, a witty French student, on a train journeying through Europe. Sparks fly instantly, leading them to make a bold decision: disembark in Vienna and spend the night together before their paths diverge. As they explore the city and share their deepest thoughts and dreams, their conversation dances between intellectual debates and playful banter. They question love, life, and their own aspirations, forging a connection that transcends their fleeting time together.
A Chance Encounter Sparks Connection: Before Sunrise
Jesse, a charming American traveler, meets Céline, a witty French student, on a train journeying through Europe. Will their bond endure the sunrise, or will their lives pull them apart forever?
Nine years after their unforgettable night in Vienna, Jesse, now a successful writer, and Céline, a captivating photographer, cross paths again in Paris. Memories flood back as they revisit their old haunts and engage in insightful conversations. Though circumstances have changed, their magnetic pull remains. Filled with bittersweet longing and the weight of the past, they grapple with missed opportunities and the possibility of rekindling a flame they thought extinguished. This second chance encounter forces them to confront their choices and redefine their dreams. Will they succumb to the pull of what could have been, or will they embrace the realities of their separate paths......

Ep 66: 2021 - Allen v Farrow v Half Truths
On todays record we give our thoughts on the Allen V Farrow Docu-Series
This will of course be a very contentious topic of debate given the subject matter at hand.. add to that the fact your hosts on the episode believe Woody Allen is innocent which seems to be against the grain of the current public emotional opinion
Again we implore people who have watched this docuseries to hear from the other side and the links below can adhere to that

Woody Adjacent - Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler - They Came Together (2014)
Continuing our Woody Allen Adjacent project JAMES has picked this interesting romantic comedy spoof..... It was an interesting discussion actually, where we delve more into our thoughts on the so called 'romantic comedy' genre on a whole..... and other pedantic quibbles ;P
In They Came Together (2014) Joel (Paul Rudd) a corporate candy exec, threatens to shut down Molly's (Amy Poehler) charming indie candy shop. Sparks fly despite their opposing businesses, leading to a whirlwind romance filled with clichés from classic rom-coms, hilariously exaggerated for maximum satire. Through flashbacks and dinner conversations with another couple, their journey unfolds, with misunderstandings, grand gestures, and awkward moments mirroring the tropes they poke fun at. As their relationship navigates breakups, second chances, and quirky obstacles, the film playfully critiques the predictable patterns of romantic comedies while reminding us that love, even in its cheesy forms, can be sweet and funny.

Woody Adjacent - Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver - Marriage Story (2019)
Continuing our Woody Allen Adjacent project our next conversation will be about...
In Marriage Story (2019) New York theater director Charlie (Adam Driver) and his actress wife Nicole (Scarlett Johansson) navigate a heartbreaking divorce, navigating custody battles, lawyer pressures, and lingering love amidst the emotional wreckage. As they move between coasts, their once-strong bond frays, forcing them to confront their individual desires and the sacrifices made for their shared life. The film explores the raw pain and fragile hope of letting go, ultimately questioning what it means to stay connected even when falling apart.

Near the end of this recording we also touch on (just a little bit) the pushback and critical response on the HBO 'Allen v. Farrow' Docu-Series which we MAY expand upon.. but honestly its already frustrating from what we have seen thus far

Woody Adjacent - Phil Joanou, BONO, Stephen Dorff - ENTROPY (1999)
Continuing our Woody Allen Adjacent discussions our next conversation will be about a movie that is a particular favourite for one of our hosts...
In ENTROPY (1999) aspiring director Bobby (Stephen Dorff) juggles the chaotic demands of his first film with a whirlwind romance and the seductive whispers of his own ego (U2's Bono). As pressure mounts, the lines between art and reality blur, leading him down a spiraling path of self-destruction. Amidst fractured relationships, creative anxieties, and existential questions, Bobby's journey becomes a poignant reflection on the price of passion and the precarious dance between ambition and disillusionment.
