1,742 Look at the Wall; Hit the Wall
Navigating Multifamily Challenges: Don't Hit the Wall!
My stepfather was passionate about restoring muscle cars when I was a kid.
We lived on some acreage, and the back half of the land was filled with several waiting to be revived.
His dedication to these cars taught me a valuable lesson: where you focus your attention is where you'll end up.
This principle isn't just for driving or car restoration—it's vital in navigating today's multifamily market.
It's easy to fixate on the rising costs impacting our P&L statements in our current economic climate.
Labor, goods, and services are all becoming more expensive, and rents are stabilizing at more typical growth rates.
We risk steering our operations into trouble if we constantly focus on these stresses.
Instead, we must set clear targets and identify cost savings and revenue growth opportunities.
Don't let the pressures lead you astray.
Focus on where you want to go, not the obstacles.
We can navigate through these challenging times successfully by looking for ways to enhance revenue and control costs.
If you found this advice helpful, please like, subscribe, and stay tuned for more insights on thriving in the multifamily space.
Take care, and we'll talk again soon.

1,741 Debunking Centralization in Multifamily: The Real Focus on Organizational Design
In this video, I discuss a common misconception about the multifamily industry: centralization.
I was inspired by a riveting debate between Moshe Crane and Michael DiMella during a live LinkedIn event hosted by Chris Arnold.
Here's why the term "centralization" is misapplied and what we should focus on instead.
Centralization, by definition, is about command and control, concentrating decision-making power in the hands of a few.
This is far from what we're aiming for in the multifamily space. What we're really discussing is organizational design.
This involves optimizing roles, responsibilities, and processes, often utilizing technology to enhance efficiency.
Revenue management systems like LRO exemplify this shift.
While some argue for guardrails, the essence is in how these systems distribute labor and manage tasks—often through AI.
Imagine AI not just assigning tasks but dynamically orchestrating every move based on real-time data. This isn't just futuristic; it's happening now.
The key takeaway? Let's redefine our vocabulary.
Move away from "centralization" and embrace "organizational design."
This shift in terminology aligns better with our goals and helps us communicate more effectively within our industry.

1,740 The Impact of AI and Centralization on Business Hierarchy
Welcome back to another episode of the Multifam Collective!
Today, we are talking about the impact of AI and centralization on business hierarchy.
Imagine a future where the traditional business structure is entirely reimagined.
This isn't just a slight shift—it's a monumental change we haven't seen in decades.
AI is set to revolutionize how we govern our businesses, replacing the old command-and-control hierarchies designed for manufacturing efficiency.
The new wave will favor flatter organizations, minimizing human touch where possible to cut costs and streamline processes without sacrificing the consumer or team member experience.
Picture billion-dollar companies run by just a handful of people leveraging technology to its fullest potential.
How do you think this shift will shape the future of your business? Let's discuss it!

1,738 Past Success Equals Not Future Success
How Your Past Successes Can Hinder Future Growth
Let's dive into the theme of coaching this week on Multi-Family Collective.
Today, I want to share how your past successes might actually impede your future growth.
Let's rewind to the mid-80s when I was in junior high, playing basketball.
One game, I scored over 20 points, grabbed numerous rebounds, and felt on top of the world.
I assumed I'd easily replicate this success in the next game. Instead, I was nearly scoreless.
My coach pointed out that I was trying to force the game, relying too much on past success.
This lesson is crucial: your past achievements don't guarantee future success.
While you gain skills from past victories, each new challenge comes with different variables.
Relying solely on past successes without adapting to new circumstances can hinder your growth.
Continuously improve your mindset and skills.
Treat every situation as an opportunity for growth and don't rest on your laurels.
Actively seek new challenges to sharpen your abilities and develop your character.
Break free from the notion that past success ensures future victory.
Instead, focus on constant improvement and learning.
Embrace new challenges, and become a better version of yourself every day.

1,737 Loss of Self is Scary
Unlocking the Secret to Effective Coaching: Embrace the Fear of Loss
Are you a coach, either professionally or personally?
If so, you’ve likely encountered the resistance that comes with guiding someone towards change.
This resistance, rooted in the fear of loss, is universal across all industries and environments.
In this video, Mike dives into the core principle of coaching—overcoming the fear of losing self.
He explains how effective coaching is less about giving directives and more about facilitating a collaborative journey of self-discovery.
As a coach, your role is to guide individuals through the discomfort of letting go of their current identity, behaviors, and routines to foster growth and transformation.
Mike highlights three key strategies:
Understand the Fear: Recognize that resistance is a natural fear of losing one’s established self.
Honor the Fear: Acknowledge and respect this fear, helping coachees see the potential benefits of letting go.
Foster Trust: Build deeper connections by supporting coachees through their vulnerable moments, enhancing trust in both you and the process.
By embracing these strategies, you can help others navigate the challenging yet rewarding path of personal transformation.
