Sam and Will discuss the first four plagues released in Egypt. While the plagues brought about genuine discomfort and grief, they were ultimately intended to be evangelistic. With each new plague, God sets out to smash the idols of the Egyptians.

When Moses confronts Pharaoh, things do not go as the Israelites expected. It turns out that their sufferings only increased when the prophet of God showed up. Rather than seeking the Lord, the people of Israel slandered Moses and raced to pledge their loyalties to Pharaoh. Once again, Moses found himself rejected by his own people and facing the ire of an Egyptian tyrant.

Sam and Will discuss the call of Moses. Was Moses bitter toward God and the Hebrews? This chapter certainly seems to suggest so. Yet even though Moses was rebellious and reluctant to the Lord's calling, God refused to allow Moses to walk away. As a result of God's faithfulness, Moses became one of the most consequential people in all of human history.

Sam and Laura discuss Moses' encounter with God in the burning bush. Throughout this chapter, we find God emphasizing both His transcendent holiness alongside His immanent nearness. From the midst of fire and thorns, God reveals precious aspects of His nature while calling Moses into a role that will forever change the world.

Sam and Will discuss the birth of Moses, his failed attempt at revolution, his escape from Egypt, and his marriage to Zipporah in Midian. Throughout the suffering of the Hebrew people, God sees His people, hears their prayers, knows their sufferings, and keeps His promises.

After Joseph and his brothers die, the Hebrews are fruitful and multiply greatly. However, as their numbers grow, a new regime takes control of Egypt, and the tables are turned. The Israelites face bitter slavery and murderous cruelty.

As Jacob prepares for death, he bestows blessings on his children and grandchildren that prophetically look ahead to the nature of the descendants of each of Jacob's sons. In addition, it is revealed that Judah will receive the high honor of carrying on the line of our Messiah -- the great Lion of the tribe of Judah!

Sam and Will discuss how Joseph receives his family. As Joseph pours out tremendous blessings upon his father and brothers, he also enriches Pharaoh and enslaves the Egyptian people. Ironically, an Israelite will enslave the Egyptians long before an Egyptian enslaves the Israelites.

Sam and Will discuss the incredible forgiveness offered by Joseph to his brothers. As Joseph reveals his identity, he showers his brothers with comfort and blessing. This beautiful story is foreshadowing the incredible forgiveness and the inheritance we have received from Jesus.

Sam and Will discuss the brilliant strategy of Joseph to reveal the hearts of his brothers, and Judah proves that he has become a transformed man. Decades earlier, Judah conspired to sell Joseph into slavery for silver. Now Judah is willing to lay down his own life for the sake of his younger brother.
