A to Z AM I the Jerk? 11: Wedding or Funeral?

In this episode, Jack is doing a solo Am I the Jerk? episode. Let us know how Jack did by himself in the comments section of the You Tube channel. The Situation:Me (f26) and my sister, Ellie (f28) are very close. Ellie's getting married in about 3 weeks, I'm her MOH and it's all very exciting, but also stressful. Especially so close to the wedding making sure it all goes as smoothly as possible. My boyfriend Jack's (m25) family is Canadian. They've recently had a family tragedy so Jack is flying out next week to attend the funeral. Of course I have no issue with him going, but he asked me to come as well.I said sorry, that's really not possible since Ellie's wedding is coming up not long after and it's just a lot on my plate right now (and it's not like a simple drive, it's in a whole other country). I've been helping with a lot of the planning and generally being there for her, and Ellie doesn't want me to go now either.Jack's been pretty upset and not talking to me much.People that know of this are torn, some are saying I'm right but a couple of people are telling me I'm being selfish.Check out the Free Online English Lessons YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. Jack Walks 04: Homophones

In this episode of The A to Z English Podcast, Jack teaches you some common homophones and explains the differences between them."Waste" and "Waist" - "Waste" refers to something that is no longer useful or needed, or to using more resources than necessary. "Waist" is the part of the body between the ribs and hips."Bear" and "Bare" - "Bear" can mean a large mammal that eats meat and fish, or to carry or support weight. "Bare" means uncovered or exposed, without any covering or clothing."Complementary" and "complimentary" are two words that are often confused because they have similar spellings and pronunciations. However, they have different meanings."Complementary" means that two or more things go well together or enhance each other's qualities. For example, a spicy sauce may be complementary to a mild dish, or two colors may be complementary when they look good together. On the other hand, "Complimentary" means to express praise or admiration towards someone or something, or to offer something for free. For example, a complimentary ticket to a show means that the ticket is given for free as a gesture of goodwill, or a compliment about someone's work means that the person is being praised for their efforts. So, "complementary" refers to something that completes or enhances another thing, while "complimentary" refers to something that is given as a gift or to show appreciation.Check out the Free Online English Lessons YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master. Free Online English Lessons 04: The Past Simple Tense

The past simple tense is used to talk about actions or events that happened at a specific time in the past. In English, regular past simple verbs are formed by adding "-ed" to the base form of the verb (e.g. walk - walked, talk - talked), but irregular verbs have unique past simple forms (e.g. go - went, see - saw). Here are the basic rules for using the past simple tense: Regular Verbs: Add "-ed" to the base form of the verb to create the past simple form. For example:I walked to the store yesterday. She talked to her friend on the phone for an hour.Irregular Verbs: These verbs have unique past simple forms that do not follow the "-ed" rule. For example:I went to the beach last weekend. They saw a movie last night.Time Expressions: Use time expressions to show when the past event happened. Common time expressions for the past simple tense include: yesterday, last week, last night, last month, etc. For example:I saw that movie last night. She traveled to Europe last summer.Negative Sentences: To make a negative sentence in the past simple tense, add "did not" (or the contracted form "didn't") before the base form of the verb. For example:I did not study for the exam last night. They didn't go to the party on Saturday.Yes/No Questions: To ask a yes/no question in the past simple tense, invert the subject and the auxiliary verb "did". For example:Did you watch the game last night?Did she call you yesterday?Practice Exercise: Fill in the blanks with the appropriate form of the verb in the past simple tense: I ____________ (go) to the gym yesterday. He ____________ (cook) dinner for his friends last night. We ____________ (study) for the exam all weekend. They ____________ (play) basketball at the park yesterday.Did you ____________ (watch) the movie last night?Answers: Sure, here are some additional past simple questions that you can use to practice the past simple tense: Where did you go on vacation last summer?Did you study abroad during college? When did you start learning English? What did you have for breakfast yesterday?Did you watch the news this morning? When was the last time you went to the beach? What did you do last weekend?Did you take any language classes in high school? When did you move to this city?Did you play any sports in high school?Check out the Free Online English Lessons YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCds7JR-5dbarBfas4Ve4h8ADonate to the show: https://app.redcircle.com/shows/9472af5c-8580-45e1-b0dd-ff211db08a90/donationsRobin and Jack started a new You Tube channel called English Word Master.
