FREESTYLE FRIDAY | The Problem With Alpha Males

The worst advertisement for being an alpha male is, in fact, alpha males. There’s an entire movement now of Alpha Male influencers that have taken the social algorithms by storm and as someone who is an ultra-competitive dude, I’ve like some stuff and not liked some stuff. So today I’m gonna talk about the things I like and the things that I don’t like. Let’s start with the positives. First of all, I like that there are men who are standing up the broader attack on manhood as whole that seems to be happening in our culture. This has been happening more and more recently where if there’s a man in a tv show or movie, he’s often portrayed as this clumsy, out of touch, mistake factory, and although some of the characters are fantastic, it gets a little old and it teaches people that that’s what men are. And look, I get it. Men were held in such high regard for all of human history that it makes them the easy target now. But now we are experiencing a pendulum swing in the opposite direction and it’s becoming hard to find good examples of what it means to be a man. So I like that there are some men who are saying, this is it. This is the example. I also like that it is bringing more attention to the conversation from people who have been fighting so hard for their rights for so long and unintentionally shitting on manhood and are now realizing that championing themselves doesn’t mean they have to put down another group. Yes, I understand the irony of that statement. So there are some good things coming out of some of this stuff, but now I want to address some of the bad things. First of all, I say that alpha males are the worst advertisement for alpha male mentality because even though some of them have good things to say, the way to market your content in that world is to attract people who want to become alpha. So instead of focusing on the boring and most important parts of being an alpha, like being a provider or protector, or serving those around you, or leading with love and empathy, but still valuing competition, struggle, hard work, and traditional masculine values, they focus on more marketable aspects of the results that some alphas have…like being surrounded by chicks in bikinis, or owning three supercars, or sitting in a bathtub full of money. And that marketing mistakenly implies that those things are what make you an alpha, not the person you are or how you show up in the world. Secondly, I don’t like how some of the alpha culture does exactly what I was saying earlier. They demean other groups in order to prop themselves up. Not only is that not the right thing to do, it’s the complete opposite of how a true alpha would act. The alpha isn’t the loud/obnoxious one in the room. They’re often the ones who act with the most quiet confidence. Their last worry is whether or not you or anyone else thinks they’re an alpha. They have the security and confidence in themselves because they focus on building an impeccable relationship with them first and foremost. They know who they are and they don’t need yours or my validation to prove it to themselves. If you are an alpha, you don’t feel the need to prove it. You can rest assured that people will know to trust you and rely on you over time because that is the person you are. Not the brand you are pretending to be.Don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube Channel, @travismakesfriendsFollow Travis on:IG 👉🏻 instagram.com/travischappellFB 👉🏻 facebook.com/traviscchappellTwitter 👉🏻 twitter.com/traviscchappellPinterest 👉🏻 pinterest.com/travischappellpod Subscribe to Travis Makes Friends on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and don’t forget to leave a 5-star rating!Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. Midweek Mashup | Self-Help for People Who Hate Self-Help (ft. Mark Manson, David Nurse, and Tom Bilyeu)

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a Midweek Mashup! On today's episodes, you'll hear insights from Mark Manson, David Nurse, and Tom Bilyeu!First, Mark Manson sheds light on his unconventional approach, describing his work as "self-help for people who hate self-help." He boldly criticizes the traditional self-help tropes, denouncing positive thinking, the law of attraction, and other woo-woo energy practices as mere indulgence.Mark's refreshing perspective on the self-help industry stems from his disdain for the hypocritical and narcissistic tendencies prevalent within it. He unveils the facade of self-proclaimed gurus who propagate a lifestyle they themselves fail to embody. Mark shies away from such circles, unwilling to participate in what he sees as a pyramid scheme of narcissism. He delves into the notion of self-improvement devolving into self-obsession and identifies the industry as an epidemic of narcissism.Drawing parallels between self-help and religion, Mark highlights the tendency of individuals to create belief systems around personal development. He explores this concept further in his book "Everything is F*cked," delving into the human inclination to form religions and the ways it intersects with personal growth.Next, David Nurse emphasizes the significance of taking action and shares his findings from extensive surveys on the main reasons people hesitate to take action in their lives. By incorporating inspiring stories of historical figures who changed the world in his new book, Nurse aims to empower readers to overcome their obstacles and embrace risk-taking.Finally, join Tom Bilyeu as he takes a deep dive into powerful quotes and shares his insightful perspective on success, perception, and personal growth. In this thought-provoking video, Tom explores the quote, "There is no greater revenge than unmitigated success," originally attributed to Frank Sinatra. Tom discusses the significance of leveraging both positive and negative emotions to propel oneself forward, emphasizing the role of anger and aggression in acute moments. He explains the science behind endurance and how channeling rage can enhance pain tolerance. Tom warns against relying solely on rage or aggression, highlighting the importance of strategic utilization. Discover how Tom's relentless drive for success fuels his determination to prove doubters wrong, and how he maintains focus amidst exhaustion and adversity.Continuing the exploration of quotes, Tom delves into the statement, "It is impossible to see the world as it is." Drawing from neuroscience, he explains how the brain's deep limbic system colors our perception and assigns meaning to neutral stimuli. Tom highlights the subjective nature of our interpretations, influenced by various factors such as mood, sleep, and personal experiences. He cites Viktor Frankl's profound insights from his time in concentration camps, where choosing empowering beliefs played a crucial role in survival. Learn how reframing perspectives and focusing on empowering narratives can transform our experiences and responses to life's challenges. In the final segment, Tom discusses the quote, "There's always room for the best," and addresses the misconception that one's current skill set defines their future potential. He encourages individuals to embrace their adaptability and the limitless possibilities for growth and improvement. Tom shares examples of remarkable achievements from individuals who defied expectations and surpassed their initial limitations. Extremity Expands Capacity | Freestyle Friday

Welcome back to another episode of Freestyle Friday on the Travis Makes Friends Podcast. Here is a summary of today's episode:Quote of the Week:"Extremity expands capacity." – Ed MylettHot Take:You've been sold a lie: "If you're not upgrading your life, you're failing."Life isn't linear, and I learned this the hard way. In my 20s and early years of marriage, we moved ten times, constantly upgrading and accumulating more. But when my sales team quit, I faced a choice: rebuild or downsize. I chose the latter and rediscovered my true goals. We downsized, focused on my side hustle, and achieved financial success. I realized that constantly upgrading is often undisciplined spending. So, evaluate your financial situation, prioritize investments in yourself, and don't be afraid to downgrade if it aligns with your long-term vision. The Breakdown:Find out how the hell Grant Cardone, a child of immigrants, ex-drug addict, and former car salesman, built a multi-billion dollar real estate portfolio in less than eight years. His key strategy was focusing on attention rather than money. Grant's mission is for eight billion people to know his name, not necessarily like him. Familiarity breeds trust, and by consistently delivering value and fulfilling promises, he gained people's trust over time. The lesson is to prioritize earning attention that can eventually translate into trust, rather than solely focusing on immediate ROI.Q&A:Travis lists the three interviews he considers tentpole episodes of his show, discusses how certain interviews and conversations have challenged his beliefs, talks about the importance of maintaining connections with guests and so much more.Resources Mentioned:The Power of One More by Ed Mylett – https://amzn.to/3CiBmmHDig Your Well Before Your Thirsty by Harvey Mackay – https://amzn.to/3qp5MkzSpecial Offer for Travis Makes Friends Listeners:Get 16 free meals with the Hello Fresh discount code hellofresh.com/travis16Don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube Channel, @travismakesfriendsFollow Travis on:IG 👉🏻 instagram.com/travischappellFB 👉🏻 facebook.com/traviscchappellTwitter 👉🏻 twitter.com/traviscchappellPinterest 👉🏻 pinterest.com/travischappellpod Subscribe to Travis Makes Friends on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and don’t forget to leave a 5-star rating!Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices.
