266: Freestyle Friday | Meet Your Hero - Follow Up

What happens when you don’t get the response you wanted from one of the people you want to network with the most? In this Freestyle Friday episode of Build Your Network, the Only Business Networking podcast on iTunes, your host Travis Chappell talks about the most important part of meeting your hero - the follow up. Episode Highlights: Always remember to go in for the initial ask first. Remember to be professionally persistent, even if you get a “no” at first. Five tips on follow up: 1) If you do not get a response don’t follow up immediately, wait a few days and reach out in a different way. A no is just a not yet, just get better, creative, and figure out how to add value. 2) If you do get a no don’t get upset and ignore them - be empathetic. 3) Don’t offer something with conditions, offer it as a value-add. 4) If you get a “not right now” be sure to follow up again, ask when is a good time to follow-up again. 5) Get a smile on your face, try video the second time if you don’t do it the first. Download the FREE Meet Your Hero Course at TravisChappell.com. 3 Key Points: Some people say no to everyone the first time, so professional persistence is key. Many times you’re only getting a “no” because someone is busy, figure out a way to differentiate yourself. Most of communication is body language, attempt to do a video chat with your hero and put a smile on your face. Tweetable Quotes: “There’s no follow up if there’s no initial ask.” -Travis “Don’t offer to do things with conditions, just do it as a value-add.” -Travis “Only 7% of communication is the words that we say.” -Travis Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at https://www.travischappell.com (https://www.travischappell.com) Learn how Travis books his guests on the show download Meet Your Hero for free at http://travischappell.com/hero (travischappell.com/hero) Get your free mastermind course from Travis here: http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (Freemmcourse.com/enroll) Explode Your Network at http://travischappell.com/explode (travischappell.com/explode) Download the Himalaya app free in https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/podcast-audio-player-himalaya/id1275493456?mt=8 (iTunes) and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ximalaya.ting.himalaya&hl=en_US (Google Play) For information regarding your data privacy, visit https://www.acast.com/privacy (acast.com/privacy)Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. 265: Who or What Part 7 with Jordan Harbinger, Amy Porterfield, and Jeff Hoffman

In this latest episode of The Only Business Networking Podcast on iTunes, we have Part 7 of the Who or What Series where Jordan Harbinger from the Jordan Harbinger Show, Amy Porterfield from the Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast, and Jeff Hoffman, serial entrepreneur from Priceline.com and Ubid.com talk to your host Travis Chappell, to continue the debate of whether who you know or what you know is more important, and why. Episode Highlights: Jordan Harbinger: It’s all about who you know - not just connecting up but up, down, and laterally. Your network is the most important resource you have. Short term  - your network is great, long term - your network is crucial. How Jordan defines networking - helping people without the expectation of return and in a scalable way. When people help you and keep score they’ll write you off when you don’t reciprocate. Never think about networking transactionally. If you think everyone is taking advantage of you, it’s probably you. If someone won’t help you, even with small things, they’re probably taking advantage of you. Amy Porterfield: Who you know is important to a certain extent, but what you know is also important. People always need things done, so figure out what those things are. How Travis developed a relationship with John Lee Dumas and then got Amy Porterfield on the show. How Amy became friends with Marie Forleo and why she didn’t pay for that friendship. How to get started adding value to others. If you’re an evangelist for what someone is doing you can’t help but notice them. A person of influence is not going to tell you how they want you to support them. Jeff Hoffman: Who you know is more important because you don’t know everything. You’re not as smart as you think you are, and you’re not good at 12 things, you’re good at one thing. If you’re a founder/CEO/Manager you should schedule days to be out of the office to build your network. Why Jeff engages strangers all the time. How Jeff got a Universal Studios executive to come to be a partner in his independent studio. Most people neglect networking because they’re too busy being inefficient to stop and take time to be more efficient. 3 Key Points: Networking is not all about schmoozing people ahead of you, you should be well-connected with everyone - up, down, and laterally. There is not a difference between networking and real relationship building. Don’t build your network when you need it, build it way before you need it. Tweetable Quotes: “The only things people can’t take away from you are your skills and relationships.” -Jordan “You don’t have to be Richard Branson to offer value to people.” -Travis “Your heart has to be in the right place, it’s never about making something happen for you, and then magic happens.” -Amy “The only way to build anything of significance in life is to build a team.” -Jeff Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Learn more about mentorships and masterminds for FREE at http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (freemmcourse.com/enroll) Download Meet Your Hero at http://travischappell.com/hero (travischappell.com/hero) Explode Your Network at http://travischappell.com/explode (travischappell.com/explode) For information regarding your data privacy, visit https://www.acast.com/privacy (acast.com/privacy)Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. 263: Freestyle Friday | Five Elements of an Effective Reach Out

In this latest episode of The Only Business Networking Podcast on iTunes, Your host Travis Chappell gives listeners a glimpse of what’s in his free Meet Your Hero course available at travischappell.com. Learn the five elements of an effective message to busy people and find out how Travis has been able to connect with high-level people so quickly. Episode Highlights: The five elements of an effective message to busy people: 1. Lead with value - mention something specific about them that impacted you. 2. Give information - you have a limited amount of words, give quick, pertinent info and hyperlink to your site. 3. Build a meaningful request - do not ask to “pick their brain.” 4. Offer credibility - give social proof and have someone’s name or a brand name next to yours. 5. “Thanks in advance” - This subconsciously creates a desire to finish the loop. 3 Key Points: Always be specific when reaching out to someone busy, they will know if you just copied and pasted info from their site. Never ask someone if you can “pick their brain” or how you can add value, that just adds homework to their plate. Always say “thanks in advance” to prompt someone to respond. Tweetable Quotes: “DO NOT ask someone if you can pick their brain for a while, or ask them what you can do that could add value to them.” -Travis “Figure out a way to add value to someone and then just do it.” -Travis “Recognizable names, words, and friends of people stand out.” -Travis “Check out the free meet your hero course at my website to get all my value pieces on this topic.” -Travis Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at https://www.travischappell.com (https://www.travischappell.com) Get your free mastermind course from Travis here: http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (Freemmcourse.com/enroll) Enroll in Travis’ https://travischappell.typeform.com/to/Lm38Rt (VIP day experience). 262: Who or What Part 6 | Grant Cardone, Caleb Maddix and Jill Stanton

In Part 6 of the Who or What Series, on The Only Business Networking Podcast on iTunes, Grant Cardone a New York Times Bestselling author and real estate mogul who’s affected hundreds of billions of dollars in sales, Caleb Maddix, a 16 year old millionaire and bestselling author and Jill Stanton from Screw the Nine to Five, talk to your host Travis Chappell about whether who or what you know is more important, and why they feel that way. Episode Highlights: Grant Cardone Connections accellerate everything. How Grant did networking incorrectly in the beginning. If you are committed to greatness and making other people great it edifies you. When Grant wrote a check to Mandalay Bay for $4 million dollars, he provided speakers with a built-in audience. Flow power to power. The guy that helps broken people over and over is broken, you want to help people who are helping themselves. #1 networking tip - make a list of who you want to connect with. Don’t just go get a job, go work for someone. Jill Stanton Jill tells a story of when a connection led to a moment of success. How far behind Jill would be in her business without her mentors. Why Jill thinks people network with the wrong motives. It creates a more genuine relationship with people when you focus on the relationship. Caleb Maddix Caleb’s dad was always pushing him out of his comfort zone. You’ll never get to know the who, if you don’t know the what of how to do it. How important it is to associate with people who are a few levels up from you. Getting around the right people is important because of who you become by associating with them. The best way to get out of an awkward conversation. Never apologize for approaching someone, shake their hand and ask a unique question. Have confidence, respect, and hunger. 3 Key Points: You need money, connections, and support, you can’t get places on your own. When you’re networking, don’t prioritize the ask, prioritize the relationships. You won’t get to know the “who” if you don’t have a “what.” Tweetable Quotes: “Connections accelerate everything, if you’re not first you’re last.” -Grant Cardone “You need to eat with kings and queens and power players.” -Grant Cardone “A network with a bunch of weak people is not a network.” -Grant Cardone “I know that relationships pay off, it’s happened for me many times.” -Jill Stanton “You have to get through the pain to get the prize.” -Caleb Maddix “When you learn how to do something the right way, you can be around anyone you want.” -Caleb Maddix “You don’t have to be a celebrity or influencer to be a successful, important person.” -Matt Maddix Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at Join the Build Your Network Facebook group http://www.buildyournetwork.co/fb/ (BYN.media/fb) Get your free mastermind course from Travis here: http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (Freemmcourse.com/enroll) Enroll in Travis’ https://travischappell.typeform.com/to/Lm38Rt (VIP day experience).
